Nicholas' stable, loving home life is forever altered when it comes to the police's attention that his parents have been trafficking drugs. During a high-speed chase, his father is killed in a car crash, and though his mother survives, she is subsequently arrested and charged. Nicholas is placed in a kind foster home but is unable to accept a life without his mother.
