Just after the evil Emperor Spengo (Jon Lovitz) imprisons King Raff (Eric Idle), he spots a California housewife (Teri Garr) through his telescope. He decides to beam her up along with her husband (Jeffrey Jones), but isn't prepared to deal with the results when both become interplanetary freedom fighters. ~ John Bush, Rovi
What nudity? What violence? What profanity? Why not suitable for children? Granted, most Eric Idle (Monty Python) is on the adult side of humor and this film is no exception, but it is certainly not as threateningy frightening as Time Bandits! I've watched this film several times and have always enjoyed its ludicrous nature. Lovitz is great as the idiot ruler of a planet full of idiots. The humor is right up Jeffrey Jones' alley and he was perfect as the wimpish Dad and for once, Teri Garr didn't irritate me as Mom. Picture quality/transfer was surpisingly good and I loved the James Horner soundtrack. I won't give this more than 3-1/2 stars, but if you like obvious idiocy, you'll probably enjoy this one.
I thought this movie was very original and funny. Emperor Tod couldn't have looked more ridiculous. The movie made me miss all the cheesy 80's flicks I saw as a kid.
