Time has not faded the impact that this film made on me as a youngster, a profound and moving impact. I recently viewed it again. Now, having seen many movies in between, of all of the movies I have ever seen, this is my favorite due primarily to the acting of young Patty Duke. Her performance is so good that it is hard to believe how a young child could play the role with such intensity. This film is set in a rural Alabama, the gestalt of the film is rural, and the acting, character development, script and story line will deliver a profoundly moving message about the singular effect that a young teacher has to change the life of a young girl who could not speak, see, hear or comprehend life. Movie watching does NOT get any better than this.

I loved this movie as a child and treasure the unending dedication and passion Anne Bancroft had as a teacher. Patty Duke was as real as it can get playing Helen Keller. Being in black in white makes the viewing focus more on the story and emotion of the movie. I loved it and still do.

This movie is a prize, I really enjoyed this true life story. Sure the film is in black and white but honestly it doesn't effect you in the least bit. I watched this film in high school a few years back and for some reason I wanted to see it again. Patty Duke who plays Helen Keller is perfect, the way she acts in the movie she really makes you believe she was blind and deaf. I can't really put into words how good this movie is. Just rent it, you will have an appreciation for the gifts that you were given and admiration for Annie Sullivan's hope and dedication.
