Yomiko Readman may appear to be a just a quiet, head-in-the-clouds substitute teacher with a mammoth collection of books, but Yomiko is no ordinary bookworm. She is also a secret agent working for the Royal British Library's Division of Special Operations. Books may seem like a tame skill to have as an operative but Yomiko is actually a Paper User; a person who can manipulate any paper with psychokinetic powers. She can make a paper ribbon stronger than a steel cable, make an origami swan fly away, or stop bullets with an index card. After buying an extremely rare book to add to her collection one day, Yomiko is accosted by an old man flying on a giant cricket who steals it.
