In this tense thriller, Ma Shan (Wen Jiang) is a Chinese police detective who awakes one morning after a night of heavy drinking at his sister's wedding reception to discover that his gun has been stolen. Since only police officers are allowed to carry firearms, Ma Shan is alarmed about the deadly possibilities of the theft, and he sets out to find his weapon; however, the memories of Ma Shan's friends are as hazy as his own regarding the wedding, and no one can tell who drove him home.     Placing this in a mystery and suspense genre is a bit of a stretch. The plot is simple, but is agonizingly stretched over a 90 minute period with a relatively quick conclusion. While the script may have been written to create a sense of panic on the part of the main character, Jiang Wen's character didn't exude it. At least the cinematographer was able to capture long shots of the beautiful countryside. The audio defaults to Dolby Digital 5.1 and makes excellent use of surround sound. As for extras, there are three trailers. Lightly recommended for a lazy Saturday afternoon.

    Jiang Wen is arguably China's finest actor. Starring in masterpieces like 'Farewell My Concubine', and, 'Devils At The Doorstep', he is once again commanding the attention of viewers with another riveting performance as only he can do it. He is about as close to China's version of Toshiro Mifune as anyone I can think of. A first rate whodunnit will keep you guessing for the whole movie until its mind blowing climax. See everything this actor is in.
