After the War (1989)
Member Rating:
John Madden's sweeping drama After the War tells the tale of a quarter-century relationship between two men who share a similar wartime experience and a similar religious background. Michael Jordan grew up in a well-heeled British family, while Joe Hirsch spent much of his childhood on the run from the Nazis. The two become friends when they are both enrolled at the same school in 1942. They survive anti-Semitic taunts together. Joe grows into a powerful media figure, while Michael becomes a respected man of the arts. The film charts a quarter-century of their history together, detailing a relationship that is equally affectionate and hostile. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

Well-intentioned, but too many characters to sustain the plot and not enough actors with real presence in order to maintain your interest in the story.

Well acted, thought provoking but not interesting from point of view of age in 1950's. Actors are playing upperclass snobs of England. No refference to effects of post war to normal people.

So far I have watched the first disc. I am sufficiently curious about the story to attempt the second disc. If it does not pick up in epi 4 I will give up. Starts off interestingly enough - epi 1 and 2 are good - in particular Geoffrey Palmer ( of As Time Goes By fame ). Perhaps the second disc will clue me in as to what the purpose of the third episode is !
