Famous Authors: Robert Burns ()
Member Rating:
Part of the Famous Authors series, which profiles important literary figures through the ages, Famous Authors: Robert Burns investigates the life of the Scottish poet with a rare sense of humor, Robert Burns. Burns, who lived from 1759 to 1796, was born into poverty and disease. People lived on oats and drank beer with every meal. Men dueled drunkenly in the streets, and brawling deaths were common. Burns' Scotland shaped his candid, romantic, and humorous poetry. Viewers are reintroduced to classics poems, such as My Luve Is Like a Red, Red Rose and Auld Lang Syne. Scholarly commentary and period sets make this 18th century poet's life more accessible. ~ Betsy Boyd, Rovi

I have enjoyed this emensely. It was eyebrow raising with its candid unappologetic facts of the man. And it is very expository which puts some things into light. Much of it I did not know. It is a very warm account of the mans life. I felt that I had met someone new. The accents are a bit hard to decipher so if that turns you off and makes it hard for you to understand then look to some of the more update tv's which many have built in closed captioned options. This may help.
