With Goldfinger, the James Bond series took a turn away from relatively straightforward spy thrillers and toward campy gadgetry, extravagant sets, and kitschy jokes. Bond (Sean Connery) has to prevent a notorious gold smuggler, appropriately named Goldfinger (Gert Fröbe), from robbing Fort Knox. Goldfinger is surrounded by evil henchmen such as the sexy female pilot Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman) and Oddjob (Harold Sakata), who kills with his steel-rimmed bowler hats. In order to stop Goldfinger, Bond has to survive several perilous situations, including a huge, deadly laser. Goldfinger is one of the most popular films in the James Bond series, and it set the tone not only for the rest of the series but also for most of the action/adventure films of the late '60s and early '70s. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi

Ah, Sean Connery as James Bond. Does it get any better than this... (yes, actually: Pierce Brosnan.) Naked ladies painted in gold, crazy villains, nuclear bombs... the quintessential things for a movie of this sort. "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to Die." There was no lack of Bond humor and quips and jabs at the enemy that made for a good chuckle, but when it got right down to getting the Job done James Bond pulled it off like always, saving the day, getting the girl, and all without wrinkling his suit.

This is one of my favorite Bond films of all time, and no matter how old the movie is, it never gets boring to watch. Connery is Bond, he could probably still pull off the roll.

Gert Frobe as Goldfinger rivals Joseph Wiseman's Dr. No for great Bond villains. The same cannot be said for Honor Blackman's P---- Galore (great name though, of course) in comparison to No's Honey Ryder (Ursula Andress). The writers did an excellent job slowly introducing us to the familiar plot elements of Bond through the first three movies. Dr. No introduced us to the character and the significance of the '00' moniker, "From Russia With Love" introduced us to Q and some gadgets, and both the Aston Martin and "shaken, not stirred" come to us in "Goldfinger." Sean Connery is perfect for the suave Bond. And finally, one of the classic movie lines ever. Goldfinger ranks slightly below "Dr. No", but still a fun movie.
