Stomp Out Loud (1997)
Member Rating:
The creators of the internationally successful stage production Stomp produced this video, which takes the show's innovative style out of the theater and into the streets of New York City. Combining aggressively-physical dancing with everyday objects (brooms, garbage can lids, hammers, and plastic jugs, among other things) used both to make noise and balance the performers, Stomp created a sensation in London, on Broadway, and on tour around the world. For this production, a collection of new numbers have been staged to take place in real-life locations all around New York, from crowded alleys to a billboard scaffolding high above the streets. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

I saw them live--twice. Both times they were amazing, but both times they were different crews, and not the original NYC crew. They were equally talented and entertaining, but there is something immensely satisfying about seeing the creator of STOMP, Luke Cresswell, doing his thing. This is definitely a must see for the whole family, and a great tool for teachers. When I was a drum captain in high school, I used to use STOMP as motivation and inspiration. I used it as a teaching tool to teach the whole line that they had to work together, and that everyone plays an important part in the whole piece of music, even if you are just hitting on the first beat of every measure. It also motivated them to push themselves to be better, and more creative musicians. And it was a reward for good behavior; memorize your stand music, and we get a STOMP day. It worked ridiculously well. Rent it. Better yet, buy it. It is so incredibly worth it.

The only complaint I have is that it wasn't longer. Very good entertainment.

Hey, these guys (and gals) can probably make the most exciting music around from a barrel of monkeys! We saw the live show last year, and this was such a fun way to relive that experience. Whether in the street or on the stage, this group thrills with it's rhythms tapped, clapped, slapped, swished, and pounded out with every imaginable object. Brooms, basketballs, pots of grain, water, truck roofs, barrels, and the now commonplace trashcan lids are among their instruments of percussion, and they sound BEAUTIFUL! Rent this and watch it with your whole family. (And prepare to try a bit of percussion yourself afterward.)
