Alone in the Dark (1982)
Member Rating:
This is a very enjoyable tongue-in-cheek horror film about some homicidal maniacs who break out of an asylum and terrorize a psychiatrist's family on a dark and stormy night. Martin Landau and Jack Palance are particularly funny, but there are some genuine scares as well. One scene, in which a frightened woman is menaced on her bed by a maniac thrusting a butcher-knife up through the mattress, is a clever send-up that will nevertheless linger in the memory. The coda, in which the crazy Palance has a bizarre encounter with a spaced-out punk chick in a nightclub, is a real gem. Recommended. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

It was pretty good, not what I expected and a little slow at beginning but really picked up and finished off good.

I remember seeing this movie along time ago and rented it to seeing if it was as good as I remember.I enjoyed the commentary and the film , I think , holds up after all these years.I liked it.

This movie certainly hasn't survived the test of time. Some of the things that happen are so random and make absolutely no sense. They just sort of toss 'em in there and hope for the scariest, goriest thing they can get. It doesn't end up for the better.

Just really sad that they had to rip off the same title design originally thought up by The Evil Dead, THAT'S a movie worth watching!

Please do not confuse this with Uwe Boll's worthless version of Alone In The Dark video game remake. This movie does show it's age, it does get a bit boring from time to time. Overall, though, it's really not that bad. If you don't have anything in your queue and you want to check out a classic, I say at least check this out. Certainly not the best, but millions of times greater than any Uwe Boll movie. Wait, 1 million times 0 = 0. Ok, disregard previous remark, still, it's worth a watch I think at the very least.

Old school early 80's horror. Not the best from it's time, but still pretty entertaining. It's too bad that it's obvious who the "The Bleeder" is. They should have thrown a red herring in there. I love the scene between the mailman and the preacher. The preacher's reaction to being called a name kills me everytime.

This is a scary movie! The movie reminded me of such movies as "HALLOWEEN". Jack Palance and Martin Landau play their roles very well as they always do.

Despite the star power of Pleasence, Palance, Landau, and Lin Shaye (maybe not so much Shaye, but I love her anyways), there's not much more of interest to the film. A little slow in the first and second act as we meet the loonnies and they escape. However it picks up and becomes a slasher flick (gory then, slightly gory by today's standards) in the third act. Could have been better.-Stone

You have to remember in 1982 horror movies were different. This one was different, good for it's time. I don't think it's a classic but it had some chills. It was good but not great.

I was very bored at the beginning. The toward the end the movie became more interesting. Movie looks pretty dated but is OK to watch once.
