Martial arts movie star Jean-Claude Van Damme made his debut behind the camera as the director of this sweeping action drama. Van Damme stars as Chris Dubois, a clown pickpocket and Fagin-like leader of orphan thieves in 1925 New York City. Kidnapped by gun smugglers and then sold to pirate captain Lord Dobbs (Roger Moore), Chris eventually ends up the property of Khao (Aki Aleong), a master Asian kickboxer. His fighting skills win Chris a chance at a legendary contest, a gladiatorial showdown between champions of the world's many diverse combat styles in a Tibetan lost city. Along for the trip are the avaricious Dobbs, heavyweight boxing champ and fellow competitor Maxie (James Remar), and Carrie (Janet Gunn), a beautiful female reporter. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

The storyline was ridiculously stupid and the entire first half of the movie is pretty skip-able. The fight sequences, however, make this movie worth renting. It's an awesome showcase of fighters from all around the world displaying some very unique fighting styles and it's absolutely beautiful to watch.

This is a pretty good movie. This is Van Damme basically in a Bloodsport rip off. The fight scenes are good but typical Van Damme. It's worth watching though.

I grew up in the late 80's through the 90's when Van Damme films were still popular and this is one of the films I had never gotten around to watching until tonight. Back in the 90's I probably would have given this 5 stars, but now in the present, yeeeeeeeeeah. Wanted to fill my nostalgia. Overall decent movie, but yeah the ending was off.

I love this movie! Classic Fighting movie with shallow story. Love the characteristics portrayed from each country's fighter. All in all, a must have for anyone's fighting collection. A great hangover movie!

Let me preface this by saying that when I watch a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie I want just three things; ridiculous dialogue, poorly choreographed fight scenes, and even more extremely ridiculous racial stereotypes. "The Quest" presents this in spades, and I love it for that. This is the guiltiest of guilty pleasure movies. You get to watch Roger Moore walk thru scenes as he cashes his check, Jean-Claude as a pick pocketing street CLOWN, excessive use of slow motion, and during the final fighting tournament, the throwdown I know everyone has been waiting for, Scotland vs Turkey! Throw in Jean-Claude wearing old man makeup for no particular reason, and one of the most scatological endings in any film ever, and you've got yourself one of the most epically horrendous movies in the history of man. A must for lovers of (good) bad movies.

I enjoyed this movie very much. I felt it had a great story to tell of misfortune and how to turn it around to work for you. As far as Jean-Claude Van Damme, I could look at his muscles and eyes all day long! And even though there is violence, what would you expect from Jean-Claude? I felt it was a great flick. My children are taking Kung Fu and I got the movie for them to watch as well. It showed great concentration and good decision making.

As Van Damme films go, this one's pretty bad. The story changes constantly and even the expected fighting is poor. Stick with Bloodsport for your mindless Van Damme fun.
