Oliver Stone, the most outspokenly political American filmmaker of the 1980s and '90s, directs this epic-length biography of Richard Nixon, the 37th President of the U.S., who was re-elected by a landslide in 1972, only to resign in disgrace two years later. Taking a non-linear approach, Nixon jumps back and forth between many different periods and events, from Nixon's strict upbringing at the hands of his Quaker mother, through the many peaks and valleys of his political career, to his downfall in the wake of the Watergate scandal. The facts of his life are blended with supposition and speculation to create a portrait that is often critical of the man's policies but displays an unexpected compassion toward his failings as a human being. Anthony Hopkins stars as Nixon, Joan Allen plays his long-suffering wife Pat, Mary Steenburgen portrays his mother Hannah, Bob Hoskins is cast as J. Edgar Hoover, Powers Boothe plays Alexander Haig, Paul Sorvino portrays Henry Kisinger, and Ed Harris plays E. Howard Hunt. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

I'm surprised. Nixon came across as a very sympathetic character. The movie had lots of details that were interesting. However, Oliver Stone is famous for making up facts. So, I liked the movie alot. It was long but moved along quickly. Unfortunately, it is loaded with information, that you can't trust.

An important part of American history that has been done very well. Hopkins, of course, is superb.

Loved the intimate portrait of Nixon. Beautiful special effects. Although I am not a Nixon fan, the movie helped me understand the era.

My husband loved the movie and I fell asleep. It was good but long and very one sided. It shouldnt have been this long of movie but still was a good movie nonetheless

Man, how dreary can it get? Great cast, Oliver Stone's choppiest and most drawn out movie yet. Zero motivation to watch beyond the first hour. Boooorrrring!

I LOVE Watergate videos, movies, film clips, Nightlines, etc.... It's still so incredible that the most powerful man in the world at the time, Richard M. Nixon, was so paranoid against the Democrats that his later-involvement with Watergate ultimately led to his demize, and fall from glory ! Un-REAL !! Anthony Hopkins DELIVERS the goods in this movie - - he does SUCH a great job ! Wonderful supporting cast - - a FIRST RATE MOVIE experience !

Superb performances by several actors. Stone, not unlike Nixon, may have an untidy reputation, but this movie is great! Sure a couple of portions may have exhibited a little too much artistic license, but it sure captured the main events and overall feeling of the era. RENT IT!

Dear me! I recall dancing and singing for Tricia and Patricia while at college in 1970-71. Tricia walked up to me and got so close she made me forget where I was and what I was doing. Viewing this film was a trip down memory lane, and I suspect will be also for many of you. Those who are about my age, "Take the journey! The reason for the rest of you to view it is that it shows how a man needs a special kind of a woman at his side, if he is to realize his dreams; the kind of woman is one who will give comfort and encouragement to her spouse to pursue his dream, even in the face of near defeat.

3 Hrs 10 Minutes!!! Awful long!! Didn't need to be! A hell of an effort in making it. Some incredible Cinematography. Lots of names and characters to keep track of. More likely to appeal to those interested in Political/Historical events, like me!

I was eager to rent this movie and it is only in Widescreen. I'm disappointed that there is no Full screen. I will send it back without watching it.
