Dr. Helen Hudson (Sigourney Weaver), a psychiatrist famous for her writings about serial murderers, is nearly killed by obsessed psychopath Daryll Lee Cullum (Harry Connick Jr.). As a result of this trauma, Helen becomes a drunken, pill-taking agoraphobic who can't leave her San Francisco apartment. After a series of bizarre murders, she calls the police suggesting that the murders were the work of a serial killer. Detective M.J. Monahan (Holly Hunter) and her assistant Ruben (Dermot Mulroney) believe Helen and discover, during the investigation, that the man is re-creating murders by the killers described in Helen's book: The Boston Strangler, Ted Bundy, Son of Sam and the Hillside Strangler. After Helen's secretary, Andy (John Rothmen) is murdered, Helen begins to fear for her own life. The film has a dramatic, terrifying conclusion as Helen confronts the killer and must overcome her own fears to save herself. ~ Linda Rasmussen, Rovi

Another movie that I had added to my collection back when it came out in 1995. Very good suspense that plays mind games with the people involved. To be trapped in oneself fear unable to think you can save yourself. To be totally dependent on someone, knowing there is someone so sick and crazy to kill just to be able to immitate someone for fame. Very good movie.

One of the best movies I have seen. Suspenseful throughout.. The crime scenes are very realistically inacted from the actual crime scenes of some of our worst serial killers.

A very intriguing film that keeps you glued to the tv all the time. Very different from the typical serial killer movies, so expect to be surprised. It kind of leads you to think differently and surprise you at the end. Good fun for a movie night!

This was an alright movie that looks into the life of a Copycat Serial Killer. It was an interesting movie to watch, because it is 13 years old now and this is back when the internet started to become big. So, it was funny for them to talk certain ways, like the Internet was a scary place to be. Still, not a horrible movie, just didn't impress me much, I recommend this as a one time watch.

A scary movie, especially for women. Sigouroney Weaver is great in these "victim of a monster" type of shows, whether the monsters be Chilean dictators, alien critters or a psycho, as in this case. This would be 5 stars except for the silly romantic angles between Holly Hunter and her male partner, and Weaver and the same guy. Neither relationshiop develops and they don't advance the plot. These movies do not work without a believable villain, and this one works. I would have liked to have known more about the man and his wife, as they seemed to live an odd life given his hobby.

1 am astounded that I am the first person to review this excellent film at this late date 11/20/2005. This is a smart, fast paced original serial killer film the likes of which I have not seen since “Subject Zero”. The aforementioned movie does not hold a candle to “Copycat” thou the originality is comparable. Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter are perfect opposites and make this film so much more interesting. Mulroney and Weavers seen to develop an affection for one another. but his untimely death leaves you wanting for more. The killer himself is of very little importance as it is the original script that drives this high energy drama. This has got to be the benchmark movie for all serial Killer movies and is a must see for those who can not get enough of these films, This is without a doubt a DVD collectable and the price happens to be right at this time.

Gripping from start to finish, "Copycat" has so many unique elements that seeing it for the first time, 11 years after its theatrical release, the film still stands out as a great crime thriller. The movie does not seek out to exploit, but instead provides us with an interesting case that dives deeper than just surface level. The characters are written and acted very well and make the film all the more inimitable. I would highly suggest this film to anyone who is a fan of great crime action/thrillers.
