The inner-workings of a corrupt Las Vegas casino are exposed in Martin Scorsese's story of crime and punishment. The film chronicles the lives and times of three characters: "Ace" Rothstein (Robert De Niro), a bookmaking wizard; Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci), a Mafia underboss and longtime best friend to Ace; and Ginger McKenna (Sharon Stone, in a role she was born to play), a leggy ex-prostitute with a fondness for jewelry and a penchant for playing the field. Ace plays by the rules (albeit Vegas rules, which, as he reminds the audience in voiceover, would make him a criminal in any other state), while Nicky and Ginger lie, cheat, and steal their respective ways to the top. The film's first hour and a half details their rise to power, while the second half follows their downfall as the FBI, corrupt government officials, and angry mob bosses pick apart their Camelot piece by piece. ~ Jeremy Beday, Rovi

Second rate Scorsese to me. the obvious comparison is to Goodfellas, which was better but had similar flaws. Casino suffers from waaay to much narration, typically voice-over on top of soundtrack on top of visuals. DeNiro and Pesci mostly co-narrate the film, but even Frank Vincent get his turn. The problem is the whole thing becomes too distant; don't tell me a story, show me. Sharon Stone is quite good, though.

This movie was insanely good. It is very long, but the whole time you are glued to the TV waiting to see what happens next. The voiceovers are a nice touch to the movie and really bring you right into whats happening.

The middle portion of Casino drags a bit; one grows tired of De Niro and Stone arguing ad nauseum. However, Scorsese stages brilliant opening and closing sequences and (with co-screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi) expertly dramatizes an important era of Las Vegas/mob history.

Wasn't as great as I thought it should have been. It had a good cast but it was long and drawn out.

They had it made. All they had to do was play the game and stay low. Apparently, they just were not smart enough to keep the control which is what being a gangster doomed them all. Very good flick about the real story and how it all came crashing down.

Martin Scorsese = Genius. no one can show a better gangster movie than Scorsese. The acting is great, Joe Pesci has never been more gangster. robert deniro is flawless, and even the extras make this movie happen. not only is this a great rental, but whoever rents it is gonna buy this movie the next day. if you havent seen this movie get off the couch and rent it right now.

...if you don't mind mob-type violence. Joe Pesci plays the mobster with the "short man complex" well, as always. He is such a a-hole in the movie, you can't wait for him to die, (spoiler to follow) and when he does, it's in such a heinous way, you feel sorry for him. (Another spoiler follows) However, when Sharon Stone's character dies, you wonder what took so long. DeNiro is amazing, as always. So, see this movie if you like mob movies. The history of Las Vegas is also very interesting, as a side-note.

I rented this because of the actors. They are all so great and believeable. Mob movies aren't my first choice but this was pretty good.
