The brief, illicit love affair between an Iowa housewife and a post-middle-age free-lance photographer is chronicled in this powerful romance based on the best-selling novella by Robert James Waller. The story begins as globetrotting National Geographic photographer Robert Kincaid journeys to Madison County in 1965 to film its lovely covered bridges. Upon his arrival, he stops by an old farmhouse to ask directions. There he encounters housewife, Francesca Johnson, whose spouse and two children are out of town. Thus begins their four-day affair, a liaison that fundamentally changes them both. Later Francesca chronicles the affair in a diary which her flabbergasted grown children read; never would they have expected their mother to be capable of the passion she experienced with Kincaid. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

What a great movie! Started a little slow, but the movie had so much meaning, feeling, and understanding. I would watch this movie again in the future. Clint and Meryl made a great team. She couldn't have played her part any better. What a great romantic/love story.

This was the second time I watched this film. The first time I think I was too young to get it.this time I understood the choices Streeps charactor made and I absolutely loved seeing Eastwood in a romantic film.

Meryl Streep is amazing. Didn't particularly like it that much when it first came out but watched it again recently and was just blown away by her performance.

This is a great romantic movie, my husband and I really enjoyed it. The love story in it is so sweet. It's not quite a good morality move but a great love story.

Meryl Streep was outstanding! Her decision to stay or go tore my heart out. The love that they shared for a brief moment lived on in them all the days of their life. I could watch this movie over and over again..
