The novel by John Katzenbach becomes this legal thriller starring Sean Connery as Harvard Law School professor Paul Armstrong. A legal expert whose days of trying cases are long behind him, Armstrong is moved by a plea he receives from a Florida death row inmate, Bobby Earl (Blair Underwood). It seems that the educated, upstanding Earl has been railroaded by an overeager sheriff (Laurence Fishburne) zealously trying to solve the kidnapping and murder of a little girl. Once Armstrong arrives in Florida, he is able to locate the murder weapon and cast doubt on Earl's innocence, even identifying a much more likely culprit in the homicidal genius Blair Sullivan (Ed Harris). All is not as it seems in the case of Bobby Earl, however, and Armstrong is going to end up regretting his interest in the case. Connery and Fishburne make an excellent team in this film. It offers lots of twists and tunrs that carry you all the way to the end. It's part mystery, part legal drama, and all good. All of the actors play their roles well, and the story is failrly good for alf of the back-tracking that it does to and from. Most directors would have made this too confusing to follow, but this film actually came out nicely. Good tone and pace for the content.
I give Just Cause 5 stars. I love Sean Connery and it kept my interest. The director did a great job in keeping all the sequences in order and keeping the events intriguing.
Great movie with great actors and a great plot. Sean Connery is amazing as always. Personally, I thought this movie had the potential of being a 4-5 star rated movie, but I gave it a deduction based on two points. I felt that the ending was a tad predictible. I figured it out about half way through. Also, based on the ending, I question all of the main characters job abilities. I will leave it at that so that I'm not a spoiler...
The movie Just Cause should be rerated XXX. Their is a scene where one character is strangled in such a realistic way that you can hear the bones crack. The movie is not noir, it is blatantly troubling in it's content. I hated this movie from the first time i saw it. It needs to be remade without Fishburne in it.
