A dramatic treatment of a family torn apart by alcoholism and recovering from it, this was a star vehicle for popular actress Meg Ryan, who plays Alice Green, a school counselor who has a serious drinking problem. Her husband is Michael (Andy Garcia), an airline pilot. Though she's lighthearted and loving, Alice is often reckless and, when drunk, even neglects her children, nine-year-old daughter Jess (Tina Majorino) from a previous marriage, and four-year-old daughter Casey (Mae Whitman), whose father is Michael. After an accident, Alice realizes that she has "hit bottom" and goes into a clinic for rehab. When she returns home, she has kicked her addiction and has become independent and strong, and her perfectionist, controlling husband has trouble adjusting. Michael is used to his wife being weak and helpless, and they end up seeing a marriage counselor to recover from Michael's "co-dependency" on Alice's role as an alcoholic. ~ Michael Betzold, Rovi

Sharon T. Meg Ryan and Andy Garcia's performances were awesome. The movie tackled tough issues; heartaches and pains associated with alcoholism, the importance of support , one day at a time focus and strong love. This is a must see!

Great Movie, loved Andy Garcia's character, Meg's not so much. I didn't see what the big deal was regarding his character, all men want to fix it. I feel Meg's character was selfish, she was all about me me me and more into her alcoholic friend (his feelings) than trying to restore her marriage to the man that truly loved her.

My girlfriend & I wanted to watch this movie together. We both have seen it before but not together. We were discussing the essence of REAL love. We agreed, this move was a good example.

Excellent movie and acting. Shows the true side of alcohol addiction but rarely is the alcoholic as willing to talk about problems as Meg Ryan was. Loved the ending but truly takes strong people to make it to there.

I recently watched this movie for the first time and it was wonderful. The love that Mr. Garcia's character has for his wife is the kind of thing I believe everybody should aspire to give.

I really loved this movie - the story was very very good and I cried. The love these two shared with each other and their children is wonderful to see. The acting was very good - I think the chemistry between Ryan and Garcia was good. I highly recommend this movie.

I really enjoyed this movie. It was a little sad but very motivational about alcoholism. It shows all the struggles one goes through with the diseases of alcoholism and how she deals with such issues.
