This is a really funny movie. If you liked Dennis Leary's comedic style in the 90's, you will love this one. Spacey give a good role.

Been a long time since we watched a good, funny movie that you could follow along, ended with a conclusion, and was a good laugh all the way through. A pleasant surprise!!!

The Ref has become the holiday movie favorite for our family of 4 with two teenage boys (Other faves are: A Christmas Story (1983), Home Alone I & II, Home for the Holidays (1995), and A Christmas Carol (1984), not to mention Saturday Night Live's Chris Farley as Matt Foley: Motivational Santa). The Ref is hilarious from start to finish with the irreverent, caustic humor of Denis Leary who plays a brutally honest cat burglar who must force a completely dysfunctional family to FUNCTION long enough for him to devise a way to escape the police dragnet. Judy Davis and Kevin Spacey are excellent as the bickering couple who are so immersed in their squabbles they continually forget they are hostages. The supporting cast is also very good adding depth and humor to this intelligently produced film. And the music in the opening credits is uniquely festive. Parental Note: I heard a bad word!
