Big-budget special effects, swiftly paced action, and a distinct feminist subtext from writer/director James Cameron turned what should have been a by-the-numbers sci-fi sequel into both a blockbuster and a seven-time Oscar nominee. Sigourney Weaver returns as Ellen Ripley, the last surviving crew member of a corporate spaceship destroyed after an attack by a vicious, virtually unbeatable alien life form. Adrift in space for half a century, Ripley grapples with depression until she's informed by her company's representative, Carter Burke (Paul Reiser) that the planet where her crew discovered the alien has since been settled by colonists. Contact with the colony has suddenly been lost, and a detachment of colonial marines is being sent to investigate. Invited along as an advisor, Ripley predicts disaster, and sure enough, the aliens have infested the colony, leaving a sole survivor, the young girl Newt (Carrie Henn). With the soldiers picked off one by one, a final all-female showdown brews between the alien queen and Ripley, who's become a surrogate mother to Newt. Several future stars made early career appearances in Aliens (1986), including Lance Henriksen, Bill Paxton, and Reiser. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

Aliens is the best SciFi movie ever. Adding space marines to an already great series makes for one great flick. Plus it has one of the best lines ever, delivered by Bill Paxton (who has a tiny but great part). "Game over man! game over..." sounds stupid, but once you see the movie, you will understand.

Not the thriller/horror of the first film, nor does it have the dialogue or score to match. However, it is a great action movie that really expands the storyline of the first movie.

The original was creepy and scary. This is much more of a thrill ride, but it's just as scary, if not more so. What's amazing about this movie is that even though people remember it as a gross-out, it's actually pretty restrained. There is almost no blood in the movie at all. Yet it's certainly nightmare-inducing, grip the edge of your seat scary. It's much more of an action movie than the first one--probably close to Terminator 2 in terms of pacing. And, like that movie, it knows how mix action with enough character development that we actually care about what happens to the characters. While not heavy on plot--it's mostly about characters getting into trouble and then trying to get out--there is enough of a set-up to make us feel like we're there with them. The movie takes the time to create a believable Universe.

This movie is the best of the series. This chapter shows hundreds of aliens doing battle with soldiers. The movie keeps you tense and wondering if one of those "bast%&%%;" is trying to get in. Watch the deleted scenes. They are worth it!!! Must see!!

Not nearly as scary as the first. The first had more quiet build-up that the second lacked. I did like how the marines were so macho and then totally scared out of their socks. Still a great movie.

This movie is OK and a little slower moving than I expected until the end which is AWESOME!! The conclusion of this flick makes the movie as a whole a worthy effort...Definitely check out the first movie, Alien, before you watch this if you can...

This is one of my favorite movies. I watch it practically every time it comes on TV. A great story and great cast. I love Bill Paxton's comic relief - "Why don't you put her in charge?!" LOL

If you liked Alien there'll be no major disappointments in viewing this film. Many consider this sequel better than the first but to me that isn't so it's just more of the same. Perhaps the improved FX had a lot of "improvement" over the original. As I said in the Alien review sci-fi fans will not be disappointed but horror fans should probably pass this one over.
