Fortress (1993)

Elements of Orwellian science-fiction and old-fashioned prison dramas are combined in this futuristic action film, as an unjustly imprisoned couple attempts to escape from a high-tech jail known as The Fortress. The Fortress is the tool of a repressive government, an imposing, computerized hell, featuring lasers for cell bars, robot guards, computerized brainwashing, and the like. Still, some things never change, including the presence of an evil warden, who harasses the pretty wife while her husband frantically searches for a way out. The special effects and design work are effective, particularly in comparison to the film's modest budget, but the story will undoubtedly seem disappointingly predictable to many viewers. Nevertheless, the film's blend of competent (if unoriginal) action and technology proved enough of a draw to make the film a financial success internationally, though it received little notice in the United States. ~ Judd Blaise, Rovi

I watched this shortly after it came out when I was a kid and I thought it awesome...I watched it again to see if it was all that I remember and I still think it was a really good action packed movie for the early 1990's. Lots of intense sences. If you are an action junky...you will want to see this movie!

Well, one surprise: Red from That 70s Show is the villain. I liked this film, and rented it because I owned the VHS of Fortress 2 and decided I had to see the first film. Nothing really special about it, but it's got nothing wrong with it either. One of those films you can either watch or have as background noise, and if it was on TV, you'd watch it even if you owned the DVD. I don't think you'll be disappointed -- it'll be pretty much what you expect.

I liked this one a lot minus the male genitalia, hah! The nudity swings both ways so ladies, you might want not mind this one. But lets get serious here, this guy just plans escape for himself and not saving all the people!!!! WTF?!? Going to rent 2

Cheesy, low budget, and predictable. Set sometime in the future it is illegal to have more then one child. Those who do are captured, placed in a high tech prison, controlled by an all knowing bad A** queen of a computer who sees all, with power to painfully punish, or kill. Pregnant couple are captured and sentenced. Prisoners are controlled by a "gestation" device that is mechanically forced down their throat ,( makes for a disturbing scene). The lighting was too bright, (would of been better with a darker look). The acting could of been better. Screenplay needed a few twists to enhance the overall plot. The special effects are not spectacular, but I've seen lots worse! One fun thing; the warden is played by the guy who played the gruff dad on That 70's Show. A fun, "C+" Sci-Fi flick. Don't expect too much, grab some popcorn and enjoy the elevator ride.
