Martin Short and Annette O'Toole star in this comedy documenting a date from hell. Short is David, a sunglasses salesman, who makes a date with Kathy (Annette O'Toole) in order to celebrate his new promotion. David and Kathy have gone out a few times before, but they both think that this is the date that will put both of them over the top, convinced that they have finally found the right person. With anxiety in their hearts, they both prepare anxiously for the date. But there is trouble on the horizon. Before heading out on the date, David discovers that instead of getting a promotion, he has been fired. Afraid that Kathy will think that he is loser, he doesn't tell her that he lost his job. He has also borrowed the car and the apartment of his friend Bruce (Paul Reiser) for the date, permitting her to think that they all belong to him. But Kathy hasn't been entirely truthful to David either. For example, she has conveniently forgotten to tell him about the existence of her seven-year-old daughter. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

This is one of the funniest movies about the whole dating scene that you can watch. It's about time that it was released to DVD. I owned the VHS version. If you want to be entertained for 90+ min. of funny storylines about dating . . . rent this one - you won't be sorry.

This was a simple movie which illustrates "what a tangled web we weave when first we practise to deceive".

If you're looking for a romantic comedy it's okay, but a little slow moving. The main characters are good, and the story is cute about the dating scene. It's worth watching, and has some funny moments.

This was so bad we turned it off 20 min into it. I love Martin Short and was so disappointed.

Whoa! This movie is worth a watch to see the 'norms' of the 1987 dating scene and movie making. Martin Short in his youth? Cutie. Where is he now? Now it's 2011. Watch to see how far we've come .... or sunk. Your call.

Good comedy on what not to do on a first date. That lies and deceit compound and end up turning everything into a disaster. Luckily they decide to try again and do it the right way. It is rated R for a reason so not for younger audiences.
