Spun from Daniel DeFoe's tale of the titular character, this sci-fi story involves a spaceship commander, Chris Draper (Paul Mantee) in a similar situation to the original Robinson Crusoe -- but rather than being stranded on an island, our hero is on a hostile planet. Draper, Colonel Dan McReady (Adam West), and a test monkey look as if they are going to collide with a meteor. Draper and the chimp are able to eject themselves from the vessel, but McReady is not so lucky. The two survivors safely land on Mars and figure out how to breathe, drink, and eat on the inhospitable planet. After some time, Draper crosses paths with a human, Friday, who has recently escaped slavery on an alien planet. As the two find a means of communication, they become friends. They soon work together to survive the incredible odds, including an alien attack and meteorological phenomena. A movie from when I was a teenager been waiting for it to come out on DVD. great movie to rent

even as a teen watching this at home one afternoon i knew the story was implausible. no oxygen on mars. however, i liked it because i love survival stories. i have never read the daniel dafoe classic which i know i should and one day will. this is an entertaining story for kids, teens and the young-at-heart. weak sfx, interesting cinematography. only movie i know of that adam west appeared in besides the batman movie. adventurous, fun, exciting, and moving. well worth a saturday afternoon watch.

This is a sweet movie putting the basic story of Robinson Crusoe on the planet Mars. With a money, an alien Friday, and the best of good luck, our Hero survives. The story line is plausible even given today's technological advances. The acting is accpetable, The monkey is cute. The alien spaceships looks like cartoons even at this movies original release date. They look worse now but are blessedly not on screen very long. The basic story is well told and acted. LIke the orignal Robinson, this one doesn't do much other than just survive. The story line with the alien lacks a bit of credibility as little is learned about the alien other than that he is an alien and was slave labor. It is apparently enough to brand the alien captors are evil enemies. This movie shows the adaptability of a good story into any setting. It is entirely suitable for young children and adults should enjoy it as well.
