Corvette Summer (1978) Reviews

Corvette Summer (1978)

The Corvette Ken Dantley's (Mark Hamill) class has been restoring in their high-school shop class is nearly completely fixed up. One day, the students walk in and it is gone - apparently stolen. Ken is larking about in Las Vegas when he spies a car that looks suspiciously like the Corvette he knows so well. He begins looking for the car, but in the meantime Vanessa (Annie Potts), propositions him on the street. Intrigued, he follows the girl back to her van, which is equipped with a waterbed. She hopes to use the van as a travelling brothel, with herself as the bill of fare. Instead, she helps him look for the missing car, and as they search, the two of them fall in love. Though praised by critics, Mark Hamill's second starring feature did poorly at the box-office, and stalled his career. Corvette Summer marks the first star appearance by Annie Potts, perhaps better known for her role in the U.S. television show Designing Women. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

Mark Hamill plays the part of a high school student who saves an old Corvette from the junk heap. His class really 70s Blings the car out and one night its stolen! Mark now makes the effort to get it back to the school but, more problems come up. This was made right after Star Wars-A New Hope and if your not a Star Wars fan you may enjoy seeing the movie where Mark gets beaten with a chain! Annie Potts has disappeared recently so many people will not know her. She does play hooker in this movie. Also, gearheads, Vette lovers and turn of the decade 80s look to the movie. Its a good watch, enjoy!

The best acting here is from Potts. Not that Hamill didn't try. It's a fun movie to watch as these two go looking for the stolen hot rod Corvette, way after the rest of Kent's bodyshop classmates have forgotten about it.

This movie is great for what it is. A look back at the way things were, a hot car, and a actor trying to be something beyond what he's known for. I love this movie, even with it's flaws. There's some cheese in it, but you expect that for a movie like this. Good stuff.

When watching this film I couldn't help saying to myself "There's Luke Skywalking driving a Vette". I guess you have to look past that and realize Mark can do other acting, although some parts of the film made him look pretty stupid. Danny Bonaduce is also in this film, he's plays a doofis with a top-hat. Over all I enjoyed this film, the plot was ok except for maybe the ending.

I love this movie, simply because I love Corvettes, even though the one in this flick is fugly. Good to see someone has the same passion for Vettes that I do.
