Neither the Sea nor the Sand (1974)
Member Rating:
With minimalist production values and little dialog, this romantic fantasy takes place on the barren Isle of Jersey where a troubled wife has come to sort out the tumult of her life. She encounters a lighthouse-keeper there and they quickly become lovers. Together they flee to Scotland. One day they are making love on a beach when the lighthouse keeper dies. Things don't get better when he returns from the dead to haunt her. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Well, there's 91 minutes of my life I'm not getting back. I love creepy movies, atmosphere, etc. It truly is minimalist in many ways, production values, dialogue, and plot. There are better movies out there.

This is one of the creepiest movies I have ever seen . . . almost wish I had never seen it! I deemed it too scary for my husband who gets a lot of nightmares. The minimalist production values and spare, remote setting only add to the disturbing story. I am rarely scared at the big hollywood movies with CG and big stars but this movie will be very hard to forget and I keep trying to put it out of my mind. If you are in a deep loving relationship with someone, this movie is almost too horrible to watch. At first it seems slow, but if you keep watching it gets more and more enthralling. Beware, don't say you were not warned!
