The Christmas Toy (1990) Reviews

The Christmas Toy (1990)
Member Rating:
As the Jones family celebrates Christmas Eve, so does another part of their household: the playroom, where the toys come to life in excited anticipation of the new toys to come the next morning. Though Balthazar the bear encourages the toys to welcome the new additions with open arms, Rugby the tiger plots to make sure he remains the Jones' favorite Christmas toy. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

When I was little (late eighties) I saw this when it originally aired as a TV special. Taped it on VHS, and watched it over and over again until the tape broke. I looked for it as an adult but couldn't find this anywhere...until I saw it in this weeks new releases! Very excited to show this film to my own daughter now.

This is a throwback to my childhood, but I absolutely love it! I remember singing the songs from this all year round when I was in elementary school. No, it's not flashy like today's movies, but it brings back the grace and warmth of the time. Even after all these years, I still love it

This Jim Henson production lacks the overall quality of the bigger production movies with the likes of Kermit, but it was an old favorite of mine and my daughter loved it as well. A possible inspiration for Toy Story, these toys come alive and yearn to be played and loved by their owner. Don't expect the razzle-dazzle of Hollywood, but sit back with some hot cocoa with your kids and enjoy a light-hearted, Christmas classic.
