Chopping Mall (1986) Reviews

Chopping Mall (1986)
Member Rating:
This high-tech spin on the slasher genre pits a group of sex-obsessed teens spending the night in a shopping mall against the mall's marauding robotic security guards -- whose programming turns homicidal after a bolt of lightning scrambles their control circuits. Director Jim Wynorski cut his exploitation teeth working for Roger Corman's legendary "B"-movie factory New World Pictures in the '70s and '80s, and this film's comic early scenes contain homages to that outfit's heyday -- with humorous cameos from Paul Bartel and Mary Woronov (reprising their characters Paul and Mary Bland from Bartel's Eating Raoul) and the ubiquitous Dick Miller. The majority of the film, however, is essentially a teens-in-jeopardy story, with the lethal bots unleashing their amped-up arsenal and bringing the victims to nasty ends amid buckets of gore -- such as the unforgettable moment when one woman's head is targeted by one of the droids and blown up like an overripe melon. (The shot is repeated during the end credits.) ~ Cavett Binion, Rovi

This film was crafty and well-executed. Who would ever think that robots guarding a high-tech shopping center would kill anyone who comes in contact with them. This sale will definitely cost you an arm and a leg! I also like how this film independently used their own concept for a horror film instead of robbing other great horror flicks such as Halloween, Friday the 13th, or A Nightmare On Elm Street. Back in the 80's and today, most directors try to make their movie the "best", but by using the plot of another movie to boast their own, is dvd fraud! I liked this movie, but if it was longer instead of 77 minutes, it could be better. Watch it now!

Fun little "robots gone crazy" 80's flick about sexually active teens locked in a shopping mall with malfunctioning security robots. Cheesy but surprisingly a cheap good time. Has a bit of a cult following among genre fans.

Not bad at all! Judging by the title, I expected very cheesy - which I guess it was in a way - but it was MUCH better than expected! Okay acting, decent story line - overall worth the rent. Definitely different!

Blood: 1 Cheese Factor: 5+ Acting: 1 Overall: 3 Holy tapered jeans put down the aquanet and we may still be able to save the ozone layer! You know this movie wasen't that bad. Oh dont get me wrong totally cheesy, the acting was well lets face it can we really call those people acting? And the featered hair, dont get me started. But thats all part of what made this movie fun, dont expect scary but see it with your friends and a bowl of popcorn. For any cheesy 80's horror movie fans this one is not to be missed.

Well this movie was entertaining but predictable. My wife was disappointed as there was no chopping in chopping mall. The bots were well done the story was predictable and it only rated a 5 on the Joe Bob Briggs scale. But pay attention to the 5th killing (I think) The one that happens right in front of the furniture store. My wife laughed out loud at that one.

This movie "took" me back to simpler times and I enjoyed seeing what they wore back then and how they spoke. The movie I admit to liking, because of the beserk robots and the kids trying to fight them.It had action.

I seen this movie 8 years ago and loved it then and still love it now If you like Action Thriller then this moive will full the action part and half of the thriller part but over all it is great for people that like killer robots and seeing blond get their head blown off

This movie was just bad. First off the DVD quality is subpar at best. But for me the worst is just how lazy, cheap or whatever the director was. At several points there are windows covered by shades and you can see the sun coming through yet they ignore them. Did I mention it's night time and that they are trying to escape?
