Child's Play (1988)
Member Rating:
Child's Play seems to have been concocted by a parent who went berserk after standing in line for hours on end to purchase a Cabbage Patch doll in the early 1980s. The film opens with serial killer Brad Dourif taking refuge in a doll factory. Dourif is killed by the cops, but not before he has invoked a voodoo curse which transfers his soul into one of the dolls. That particular doll, nicknamed Chuckie, is unwittingly purchased by Catherine Hicks for her son Alex Vincent. Several murders occur shortly thereafter; all evidence points to Alex, who insists that his cherub-faced doll is responsible. Detective Chris Sarandon, the man responsible for Dourif's death, doesn't swallow Alex's story, but he agrees to investigate because he's sweet on Alex's mom. The slasher-flick ending of Child's Play would seem to have settled Chuckie's hash for good and all, but guess again--the film spawned numerous sequels. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

This is your classic urban horror flick: Completely unbelievable, but if you go with it, you might actually get scared a few times. Chucky's effects were done well enough that it's not hard to pretend he's real - and real angry at anyone who gets in his way.

Blockbuster do not advertise the new edition of movies if all you have is the old edition...it is considered false advertising

Watch this and you will want to watch all the other "chuckie" movies (Child's Play 2, Child's Play 3, Bride of Chuckie and Seed of Chuckie) This movie is a classic and must be seen by all. I admit, it doesn't have the best sets and plot but the fact that chuckie is in the movie just makes this and all the other chuckie movies great. It is such a great character! They should make more of these movies!

This movie is kinda lame but it is a classic and chucky is funny as hell. If Brad Dourif wasn't the voice of chucky this movie would probably suck.

This movie was horrible. No aspects of it were good. The plot was bad, there was no humor, and it wasn't scary.
