A United Nations Space Command (UNSC) cadet experiences a crisis of conscience before facing the Covenant on the battlefield, and draws inspiration from Master Chief while fighting for the future of mankind in this sci-fi action opus based on the hit X-Box franchise. As the latest crop of cadets trains to defend Earth from extraterrestrial threats, new recruit Thomas Lasky questions the need to fight. Later, after witnessing the ruthlessness of the Covenant firsthand, Lasky realizes that he may have what it takes to follow in the footsteps of the great Master Chief. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
Awesome movie if you have read any of the Halo books! The armor, guns, aliens, and characters were all very accurate to the books. It does start slow and develops the characters while giving you bits and pieces about the situation. I got the feeling that maybe they diddnt have the budget to show too much high tech scenery and such, but I think they did good with what they had. This felt like a good 1st movie in a series that builds to a major conflict between the UNSC and the Covenant... If you like Halo and you read (at lease some of) the books, you will like this movie.
I see a lot of negative reviews for this movie and I think that it being a HALO movie raised the expectations fairly high..
I enjoyed it, and it left me wanting more - the last 20 - 30 minutes where totally awesome!
Way better then I expected. Its a must see for a halo fan. After watching this I'm convinced a big budget Halo film would be outstanding.
Only complaint is it takes too long for it to start getting good.
somehow you are suppose to care about these dumb kids with no personalities. they should have replaced the actors with robots. seemed more like a video to get kids to think about joining the military and glorifying boot camp. as a vet i should know. a very boring movie. i really tried to watch it, it was so boring i started fast forwarding till i saw something intresting. horrible movie
Have no familiarity with the Halo plotline, so, just as a standalone SF film, the filmmakers did a lot of work creating the Halo "universe", and for the most part, the overall results are well done. The look reminded me a little of the old "Starship Troopers" movie. Basically we follow a group of cadets thru some boot camp-type training, with all the individual personal dramas that accompany that, if a bit sanitized, until, suddenly, a "this is not a drill" attack. Way too much "shaky-camera" usage in the action sequences. It started to get obnoxious. The prolific visual effects are great, but so much of the action takes place in dark places that much the efforts are obscured by the absence of any lighting. In fact, the whole film looks flat and washed out visually. But, on the whole, a nicely constructed movie.

This movie is obviously for Halo fans only, and the under 30 group. Too slow in many parts and action didn't get going until very late on. Very murky looking, boring sets, less than even TV quality visuals, and the "aliens" were a joke. Anyone calling this a serious version of Star Ship Troopers is way off the mark. Characters weren't compelling at all. This movie gets a D, for disaster.
