I agree - this was a great historical movie that needed to be told - never knew about it before. It's NOT about Andy Garcia - it's about people who are so passionate about their beliefs they are willing to give their lives and about governments that continually try to take away our rights. Great job!!!

Excellent movie about a part of Mexican history a lot of people probably have never heard of. This concerns the leader of Mexico, who was an atheist, outlawing the practice of religion during the 1920's in Mexico. The religious folks are appalled at the slaughter of innocent priests and Christian citizens and band together into an army of Cristeros to fight the government. The Cristeros are led by a great general (also an atheist) who learns what being a Christian truly means.

The 'Glory' wasn't all that great for me. You have a fine cast and Andy Garcia is in fine form. But, the treatment of the material was superficially handled and it goes on for two-and-a-half hours.

    If you claim to be Roman Catholic then see this film. In the USA we are never told what happened to our Catholic brothers and sisters in 1926 in Mexico. This film is historical. Yes, people get killed. But the violence is not gratutious. You will appreciate your faith and your circumstances alot more after seeing this film. Even the American Knights Of Columbus tried to desperately help the Cristeros in Mexico (shown in a short film that comes with the DVD, very briefly mentioned in the movie). Andy Garcia gives a 5 star performance. Peter O'Toole does not disappoints. Mr. O'Toole gives a fine acting performance - one of his very last after retiring from the stage. Very moving. Yes, some people will cry. Others will not. Excellent film. Glad it was made.

    Racella S. 10/26/12 The Cristero War started when a new regime began to persecute priests and the Catholic Church in Mexico in the 1920's. It began in small pockets of resistance but soon engulfed the whole of the country. Andy Garcia plays their general who fights because he believes in religious freedom. Many who fought , including this general, later become official martyrs of the church. There is "necessary" brutality . The beliefs of the church are forefront. The thing that is most important here is that most folks in the USA have never heard of this war and do not know that it even happened. This movie is well made. Ladies grab the box of facial tissues for all the tears you will shed. This movie is not for the faint-heart...but believe me you will always remember it.
