The film that has become the master work in Italian horror maestro Dario Argento's canon, Deep Red holds up brilliantly despite the plethora of copycat slasher films it inspired in the years to follow. The film opens with a flashback murder shown from the perspective of a child while an eerie nursery rhyme plays. Cut to the present, pianist Marc Daly (David Hemmings) witnesses the murder of a psychic while chatting with his drunken pal, Carlo (Gabriele Lavia). While the police investigate, Marc joins forces with attractive reporter Gianna (Daria Nicolodi). Once Marc realizes that he is a target for the killer, he seeks help from Giordani (Glauco Mauri), a professor of the paranormal, who soon becomes one of the killer's victims. Marc's research leads him to an abandoned house where he discovers a secret room that hides a corpse. Before he can call the cops, he is knocked out and awakens to find the place in flames while Gianna holds him. Racing to the neighbors to call for help, Marc discovers an important clue that leads him to a nearby school where he finally finds the killer's identity. The madman attacks him, but the police arrive to save Marc. Though the case appears to be solved, Marc comes to the disturbing realization that one piece of the puzzle remains. ~ Patrick Legare, Rovi

I dont care about what the other numbskulls who reviewed this movie think. They wouldnt appreciate a classic murder mystery if it bit them on their... I admit, its slow... but what good flick from the old day's isn't? The scene with the scaulding bathwater I found most disturbing and I actually felt bad for the clairvoyant who got attacked by the doll....

I'm not a huge Argento fan, although you have to give him kudos for the ground breaking work he's done. However, this film is very similar to Tenebrae, only Tenebrae is a better film with better acting. It has a good story, but the characters motivations are difficult to understand. If you are an Argento fan you will not be disappointed. He has all his usual weird imagery and great background music. If you aren't an Argento fan, watch Tenebrae (Tenebre in the states) instead.

classic Argento that must be seen by fans of horror/mystery. people will say that it is slow, and it is, but if you hang on till the end then you won't be dissapointed.

Reminiscent of 'Bird with the Crystal Plumage'. A must-see for Argento fans, 70's horror fans, & 70's Italian car buffs. If you don't like any of those things, or if you insist on constant action in your movies, this one isn't for you. Loved the soundtrack from 'The Goblins'.

Wonderful movie from back in the day, with good old horror who dun it mystery. This movie is from the 70's so expect a 70's film. The camera work is a little Hitchcockian and some of the gore was before its time. This is kind if a artsy film with a mix of english and italian language with no subtitles during the italian parts. This was a way I believe the director wanted to sustain the mystery because even with all the Italian language you don't lose any of the story. Much of what is said during these times you ether already know what they are talking about or you can tell what the conversations about. If you don't like 70's film noir you may not like this one. The music is classic 70's film funky and the clothing is too. All around I enjoyed the movie and would recommend.

This movie definately has the title "Deep Red". And it definately lives up to it's title, in all it's deepness and redness. Though, it's more of a crimson, but eh, leave it up to the translation to figure it out. Wooooo!! for this movie

Terrific in all its 70s glory. Bloody in its comicbook way, with some gruesome deaths. Not very suspencefull. Great 70s music that actual sounds like it belongs in the film. Be sure to check this one out. -Stone

I did not get past the first 5 minutes. The whole Italian language thing burned me out. I'm about to drop Blockbuster since the only movies I haven't seen are garbage like this.
