Writer Nicholas Jarecki makes his feature directorial debut with this drama centering on a Wall Street hedge-fund tycoon and family man who scrambles to maintain a picture-perfect façade as his empire slowly begins to topple behind the scenes. Robert Miller (Richard Gere) is about to turn 60. One of the most successful businessmen in New York City, he lives a life of luxury that few will ever experience. But there's a storm coming, and nobody knows it better than Robert. If he can finalize the bank purchase of his trading empire before any evidence of his shady business dealings is unearthed, there's a chance he could emerge relatively unscathed. Not even Robert's wife Ellen (Susan Sarandon) or their astute daughter Brooke (Brit Marling) have any idea of the hole their family patriarch has dug, but they are about to be swallowed up by it as well. At the crucial moment when his plan falls apart, however, a deadly complication leaves Robert with no choice but to seek the help of shady Jimmy Grant (Nate Parker), a man the wealthy financier never expected to see again. Just when it seems the situation couldn't get any worse, NYPD detective Michael Bryer (Tim Roth) realizes he may have uncovered a key piece of evidence that will ensure Robert pays for his sins. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I just finished watching this film on 9/21/2012.The reviews state that Richard Gere should be up for an Oscar with this performance.I don't think they saw the same movie I did, or maybe all the reviews were written by Mr. Gere's family. The script is all over the place, the writer forgot that we the movie goer have no idea what he was thinking.I wanted more detail about Gere's money problems , or the other big F#%K UP, he put him self-in. The ending left me wondering , OH COME ON THAT CAN'T BE THE WAY THE WRITER FINISHED HIS THOUGHT'S ABOUT THESE CHARACTERS.I have no idea if there are 5 or 6 or 7 different books about these characters.Do I have to wait for the sequels parts two , three , or more to find out what in the heck happened? If that is true, than this script should have been written for T.V. under the category mini series.Than at least we the movie goer would know to wait for week one, two, three and so forth for more detail. on how these people dealt with there future.

This is ONE YOU HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION TO to get the gist of the plot which is brilliantly and craftily organized. IMO, bad reviews of such a great watch are due to lack of attention or understanding OR this genre is just not your cup of tea. After all, we can`t really go wrong with Gere and Sarandon. Sure Sarandon had a smaller role in the film but I can see why she would oblige. The suspense was there from the get-go and keeps you guessing what is next through the whole movie. The acting is top-notch and convincing. As far as the end of the movie is concerned, if the thought is a sequel, I think you missed the whole point.

OUTSTANDING! Richard Gere's excellent in this film as Robert Miller a tormented, flawed and resourceful banker/father. He had me pulling for the guy who has crafted a successful, desperate and dangerous lifestyle that were all of his own creation. BRILLIANT!

The script is poorly written and the story is poorly developed. There are way too many flaws. Much of the script is not at all credible. It assumes that the viewer is either stupid or willing to summarily swallow without credible explanation, things that don't seem plausible. I thought Richard Gere was good in the role, but I cant imagine why Susan Saradon took this minor role. It was a waste of her talent.

Considering the cast, and the sterling reviews, I was expecting a real stunner of a flick. What a disappointment when I actully got to watch it. Was this supposed to be a thriller or a character study? It turns out to be neither - just a waste of talent and time.

Just another attempt to paint the wealthy as crooks by a script writer who has no knowledge of what he writes.
