Read MoreThis movie has all the vices: smoking, lying, adultery, backstabbing, treachery, gambling, drinking, and more!! Great character acting with just the right amount of insight into the desperate lives they all have in the oppressive throes of WWII era of Nazi occupation. Broken hearts, hope, heroism, nationalism, greed, lust, chivalry.. the entire gamut of human emotion and character is explored, if not too deeply. A little knowledge of WWII history going into this movie will help to understand, but realize that this was made in 1942 during the deepest, darkest hours of the Nazi occupation of France and neighboring countries. If you can allow yourself the indulgence of a quiet night alone or with a special friend, turn the lights off, pop some popcorn, sit back and enjoy! Close this ReviewWAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

Beautiful old flicker. Aside from the great story and wonderful actors, I (must say) I love looking at the wardrobe in this film! Both Ms. Bergman's AND Mr. Bogart's. Gorgeous. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

This was the best version I have ever seen. It was clear in both the 4/3 format and was not distorted when I used the full screen feature on my TV. Obviously this film can not be as sharp as other more recent black and white Blu-ray pictures like The Longest Day. It simply was not made in1942 to have the background detail that we see in modern motion pictures. There are many special features including a couple of commentaries, one by Roger Ebert, that I did not listen too. There were some interesting specials about the movie and Bogart by Lauren Bacall and another shorter one by Steven Bogart and Pia Lindstrom. Also included were a deleted scene, some outtakes (no sound), trailers and a cartoon.
