In Robert Zemeckis' drama Flight, alcoholic pilot Whip Whittaker (Denzel Washington) does a miraculous job crash-landing a plane that has suffered a severe mechanical breakdown in midair, however the mandated investigation into the incident will inevitably lead to the discovery that he was flying the plane while drunk and on cocaine. As he attempts to sober up, Whip befriends a fellow addict he meets during his post-accident stay in the hospital. Soon he fails in his attempts to white-knuckle himself to sobriety, and with the help of his favorite drug-dealer (John Goodman) and his lawyer (Don Cheadle), Whip must prepare to testify about what happened on that fateful flight. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi
The opening scene is a bit no a lot racy and was surprised that scene even passed an R rating. This movie was so good that at times it had me tearing up. The struggle of a successful pilot caught up in lies, alcohol and drugs as he lets down friends, family, loved ones and even co-workers. The weight of the World comes down on his shoulders as
the balance of an plane crash becomes hero or criminal. A few die but many are saved. Special effects may cause you to never want to fly again, at least not during a storm which can be scary enough without the pilot performing acrobatic maneuvers with the aircraft. John Goodman stars as a drug pusher in a role you have not likely seen him in before. Well worth the time to watch at least once if not twice. Solid 4 stars. Would have given it 5 but it is not family friendly.
Very good movie..but it could have been so much
better minus the horrible language!! this was very disappointing!! Denzel Washington is a very talented actor.. Movie portrays the true reality of addiction.. Hopefully, this will help others who are addicted to realize jsut how much they need help!!
a new high for Denzel as an actor, excellent movie. There's a lot of anxiety in the flight scene, and the premise of the aircraft crash is based on Alaska Airlines flight 261, so a little too real albeit with a different outcome.
This movie was very riveting! I actually rented it just because I heard it was good...but wow.....it was gripping and emotional and other things I can't think of names for! A must see for sure!
A very good movie which held my interest all the way through. Denzel did his usual great job, and was surrounded by an excellent cast. I went into the movie and was not sure where the movie was going to head. It was a powerful addition story which did have some redeeming value, which is not present often in todays movies...Good one.
