Director/co-writer Wes Anderson teams with screenwriter Roman Coppola for this period comedy-drama set in the 1960s, in which a pair of young lovers (Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward) from an island off the New England coast head for the hills and throw their small town into a frenzy. Bruce Willis co-stars with Bill Murray, Edward Norton, and Frances McDormand. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
I was anticipating a wonderful flick with the calliber of actors in it but I couldn't sit through the whole movie. Even my teenage daughter was uncomfortable in certain parts. Not our style of movie and I will definitely read reviews in advance before ordering future films.
This has to be one of weirdest movies I have seen. It takes a good while to even figure out what is going on and who the main characters are, and then it just didn't seem worth the effort. I wouldn't recommend it.
I get Wes Anderson and I loved The Royal Tenenbaums. This film is fun to watch and was very nostalgic for me. There is a lot of quirk that's for sure...but the basic story, the characters and the kids make it really fun. The new best actress award goes to Kara Hayward. Wow. Also Jared Gilman was amazing as the young oddball kid. I get that this kind of film would make some people cringe and I think some of the imagery was a bit cutsie and overdone. I have to say I really enjoyed Edward Norton as the Scoutmaster Ward. Every time he came on the screen it was really a highlight. Everyone is good in it...it's just a style you do have to like otherwise it will make you wonder like Don S. said "What the ???"
This is a Wes Anderson movie. If you've seen Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, etc and enjoyed them then you'll enjoy this one. Anderson has a specific style. You either love it or hate it. I enjoyed this movie. I think everyone did a good job and it was a cute story.
Refreshing different film with lots of characters that carry a scrip that many can relate to in some weird way. Great acting by many talented stars you'd hardly recognize. Very funny and sweet at the same time.
