Originally adapted by director Paul Verhoeven in 1990, author Philip K. Dick's classic sci-fi short story We Can Remember It for You Wholesale returns to the big screen in this remake starring Colin Farrell, Bryan Cranston, and Kate Beckinsale, and directed by Underworld's Len Wiseman. The planet has been decimated by nuclear war in the late 21st century, leaving only two nations -- the United Federation of Britain and the Colony. Douglas Quaid (Farrell) is a factory worker with a stable job and a loving wife (Beckinsale), but upon learning that a company named Rekall could grant him the memory of the ultimate espionage adventure, he decides that a virtual vacation is better than no vacation at all. But in the midst of having the new memories implanted, something goes haywire. Still strapped to the chair as the system breaks down, he's branded a spy as the authorities close in, and quickly flees for his life. Later, Quaid discovers that he has a secret identity, and he joins forces with rebel soldier Melina (Jessica Biel) on a mission to track down Matthias (Bill Nighy), the head of a fierce resistance movement that's been labeled a terrorist organization by the tyrannical Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston). Cohaagen seeks to control the entire free world, and now the harder Quaid fights to defeat him, the clearer it becomes that his memory had been altered long before he walked into Rekall. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

January 16, 2013....................a lot better than the one with Arnold Schwarzenegger in it. There is a lot more action and this movie has a better story line and better acting, the special effects were more believeable, a lot more enjoyable and very entertaining to watch. I bought the movie.

This is not a remake of the original movie but does parallel the story in some ways, though it takes place only on earth. The names of many of the characters are the same and at times you think that you know what is going to happen next and are fooled. There is a lot of great action and what would a Total Recall movie be without the three boobed broad who makes an appearance? The movie is quite long but well worth the time spent.

Not much to it besides the special effects. Was just one long chase and crash scene and a lot of stuff blowing up. It didn't make much sense or have much plot. the Arnold version was better.

Average film not as good as the original. Much different from the original which was about Mars. Not perfect but worth a rental.

Good special effects, but quite confusing. I think the original version with Arnold is better.

I LOVED it! And my 22-yr old nephew graded it a B- but would also recommend. The acting is good, the action is non-stop and the main characters are great on the eyes. In the future there are only 2 places left to live on Earth: The United Federation of Britain, and The Colony (rest destroyed by war). Colin is a factory worker, married to Beckinsale who is military for UFB. Colin has disturbing reoccurring nightmare where he is part of something big (with Biel) and gets captured and that is where he always wakes up. He goes to Rekall for a good memory to chase away this one and they discover he is a spy/agent. All hell breaks loose and the action is non-stop from there. Not the most original story plot, but VERY GOOD ENTERTAINMENT. ** PARENTS: there is 1 scene where hooker tries to solicit Collin by showing her bare breasts (all 3 of them) but that is it for sexual content. The rest is action/violence (no gore that I can think of, very little blood, mostly killing machines).

Disappointing at best. No character development. Little if any plot. Doesn't hold a candle to the original. With the headliners in the cast and the advancements in movie making tech I thought..."this is going to be good!" .... not even close....

Loved it! Totally different, which is good, some 20 years later, it should be!! And never get tired of looking at Colin Farrell!
