Originally adapted by director Paul Verhoeven in 1990, author Philip K. Dick's classic sci-fi short story We Can Remember It for You Wholesale returns to the big screen in this remake starring Colin Farrell, Bryan Cranston, and Kate Beckinsale, and directed by Underworld's Len Wiseman. The planet has been decimated by nuclear war in the late 21st century, leaving only two nations -- the United Federation of Britain and the Colony. Douglas Quaid (Farrell) is a factory worker with a stable job and a loving wife (Beckinsale), but upon learning that a company named Rekall could grant him the memory of the ultimate espionage adventure, he decides that a virtual vacation is better than no vacation at all. But in the midst of having the new memories implanted, something goes haywire. Still strapped to the chair as the system breaks down, he's branded a spy as the authorities close in, and quickly flees for his life. Later, Quaid discovers that he has a secret identity, and he joins forces with rebel soldier Melina (Jessica Biel) on a mission to track down Matthias (Bill Nighy), the head of a fierce resistance movement that's been labeled a terrorist organization by the tyrannical Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston). Cohaagen seeks to control the entire free world, and now the harder Quaid fights to defeat him, the clearer it becomes that his memory had been altered long before he walked into Rekall. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Jan/2013. Having a great Rekall of the original with former Calif. Governor, I was a little reluctant to watch, but then I guessed that the CGI would greatly improve the movie, it did but then there were a lot of little things I missed. Farrell removes the phone from his hand, Arnie had to putll the tracer out of his nose, more ouch factor. Choker creating holographic image vs. female body suit hiding Arnie inside. Better fights for sure, better cat fights, and more attractive people cast all around. But martian mutants explained girl with 3 no explanation here. Greatly missed was the line "Consider that a divorce." Gee, I waited the whole movie to hear it and then they forgot it. Lots of in jokes referring to old version, but no Jonny Cab. Biel, Beckensdale and even Farrell look lots better than the cast of first one. But, not holding candle to original, not so. Get lost in suspended belief for 2 hours. Enjoy.

I was eleven when I watched the old Total Recall and I liked it so when the updated one came out I was happy and unsure. When my husband and I watched it my eleven year old son asked to watch too so I let him. We all really liked it my son loved it and I didn't cover his eyes fast enugh when the three booby lady came out! "LOL" They just had to put her in didn't they, but besides that it was really good! Better then the old one come on it's Colin Farrell and I liked the changes, that I don't say often.

Should be called "Total Rekall" because that's what it's all about. Heavy CGI, not a lot of dialogue in this movie. Non stop action from start to finish. A little confusing at times because the characters sometimes morph into someone else unexpectedly making the story hard to follow. Pretty entertaining, many rounds fired and a whopping high body count. I could not believe this wasn't rated "R". Enjoy.

Just fighting, no real plot development or empathy. First had a good storyline, this one, not really.

I love the excitement and the suspense, I did not like the language I thought this movie was PG-13 I would never let my 13yr. old watch this type of film with this type of language.

This movie is terrible! weak story and no character development. If you are a big fan of the original like me, then don''t waste your time. If you think "how bad could it be" and watch it...the remember i told you so

I LOVED it! And my 22-yr old nephew graded it a B- but would also recommend. The acting is good, the action is non-stop and the main characters are great on the eyes. In the future there are only 2 places left to live on Earth: The United Federation of Britain, and The Colony (rest destroyed by war). Colin is a factory worker, married to Beckinsale who is military for UFB. Colin has disturbing reoccurring nightmare where he is part of something big (with Biel) and gets captured and that is where he always wakes up. He goes to Rekall for a good memory to chase away this one and they discover he is a spy/agent. All hell breaks loose and the action is non-stop from there. Not the most original story plot, but VERY GOOD ENTERTAINMENT. ** PARENTS: there is 1 scene where hooker tries to solicit Collin by showing her bare breasts (all 3 of them) but that is it for sexual content. The rest is action/violence (no gore that I can think of, very little blood, mostly killing machines).

Disappointing at best. No character development. Little if any plot. Doesn't hold a candle to the original. With the headliners in the cast and the advancements in movie making tech I thought..."this is going to be good!" .... not even close....

Loved it! Totally different, which is good, some 20 years later, it should be!! And never get tired of looking at Colin Farrell!
