Buried director Rodrigo Cortes follows up his claustrophobic sophomore feature with this tale of two paranormal investigators who encounter unimaginable terror while attempting to debunk a world-renowned psychic whose powers put all others to shame. Dr. Margaret Matheson (Sigourney Weaver) and her partner Tom Buckley (Cillian Murphy) have built their careers on exposing the so-called "red lights" used by fraudulent psychics to assert their abilities. When blind mystic Simon Silver (Robert De Niro) emerges from his 30-year retirement and sparks a public frenzy, Buckley sees exposing Silver as the ultimate challenge. Matheson, sensing that her ambitious colleague is about to get in over his head, strongly advises him to drop the investigation at once. But Buckley persists, and with the help of his star pupil (Elizabeth Olsen), he plots to expose Silver before the entire world. Very disappointing Robert De Niro movie. The story did not make much sense even though it was not predictable. Sigourney Weaver's role was a waste of time as well as her partner Cillian Murphy. I can't take anything away from the actors' performances, the story was definitely flawed!

I actually liked this movie -- Cillian Murphy (Scarecrow in Batman Begins) is good, I've always liked De Niro, and Weaver is Weaver -- There's a neat little twist at the end (kind of a tip of the hat to the Sixth Sense) -- I really love how this movie shows/exposes some of the trickery used by these fraudulent psychics to con stupid people out of their money (gullible dimwits) -- if you're a big believer in psychics then you probably won't like it's premise, but if you're a level-headed individual and you think the synopsis sounds interesting then this will probably be right up your alley.

    I really wanted to like this movie. A stellar cast, creepy preview, led me to believe it was going to be a great supernatural thriller - Wow, let down. At times this was worse than a B-movie. I'll sum up with 3 cons: 1. Bad acting. Never thought I'd see great actors say lines so stupid "How'd you do that? How'd you do that? How'd you do that?". 2. Bad editing/continuity. Cillian gets his face graphically beat and bloodied in a restroom, and the next SECOND there is very little blood on his face? 3. Bad storytelling. Scenes go on pointlessly, nothing to do with the movie (a line of salt in Deniro's room?), and worse - using fakey newscasters and news broadcasts to tell key (redundant) points of the story. Awful.

    Don't get too excited about this movie, folks. It has promise at the beginning but it crashes and burns, and becomes intensely annoying, before you hit the halfway mark. Cillian Murphy is particularly annoying. Funny. The movie is about a fake master of the paranormal but it's the movie itself that strikes me as a fake. Nothing works and everybody screams to try to make up for it.
