A rookie CIA operative goes on the run with a rogue former intelligence officer after a South African safe house comes under attack by heavily armed mercenaries. Matt Weston (Ryan Reynolds) is a CIA agent just waiting for the perfect opportunity to prove himself. But that's no easy task when you've been cooped up in an empty Cape Town safe house for a whole year. Weston realizes that a prime opportunity is headed his way, however, when he learns that former agent Tobin Frost (Denzel Washington) has been captured after nearly a decade on the run. Frost is about to become Weston's one and only guest at the safe house, and the fledgling agent is determined to handle the situation like a true professional. But by selling U.S. secrets to countries like North Korea, Frost has made more than his fair share of enemies in high places, and shortly after he arrives at the safe house, all hell breaks loose. A small army of gunmen are determined to see Frost dead. Meanwhile, Weston will do everything in his power to protect Frost, regardless of his crimes. Now Weston's only hope for getting out of this alive is to find out who's gunning for them, and seek out someone he can trust before it's too late. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
There was a fair amount of action in the movie. The movie had a low-res quality, not crisp, clear, visual which we found a bit annoying. I had the feeling like I had seen this movie before even though it just came out in the theatre. There is a lot of mystique in the movie, a lot of wondering who the good guy and bad guy is in the movie but pretty predictable. It was ok. I have seen better.

The rapid-cut super-close camera work (meaning fight sequences didn't have to be actually well-staged through much of the movie) gave me almost a headache. A shot never lasted more than a couple seconds. This is an annoying modern directing trend, the worst case of which I feel is the show "The Office." The director relies on these fast cuts to create suspense and an antsy feel through out the movie. The jittery hand held camera, prominent later in the movie, seems inexcusable. Or maybe just not my style. I find it tiring, and I like a good spy movie, usually. Yes, Washington's acting is good. Two seconds at a time. Argh! The story is rehash and not much is believable. How about a 1972 Petrus coming out of a bottle purple-pink? Bwahahahaha! This movie maker thinks (or knows) that Americans are pretty dull-witted, with attention spans shorter than a house fly.
Acting is this movie is 5 stars, but the movie just drug on and on and on. Pass this one up. Heck I was watching this with my wife and my boys and they all got up and left. I gave it a shot thinking it was eventually going to go somewhere and it never didâ¦thank goodness it finally ended though.
Denzel Washington can make a mediocre movie great, and I thought the movie was okay. The story was what interested me. I love how Matt Weston's character is truly schooled by Tobin Frost. I know that this plot has been done many times before, but I still love it. This movie reminded me that patriotism doesn't necessarily mean that you just follow and don't ask questions.
If I were judging this movie only by the acting, I'd most likely rate it 4 stars rather than 3. I felt the story was trite and predictable. It's exciting if you like shoot 'em up adventure/thrillers (and I do). My boyfriend and I both got a kick out of it. Ryan Reynolds' character is intelligent but untried in the field. Suddenly he's responsible for the the safety of Danzel Washington's character who is a CIA legend as well as a rouge agent. DW's character is presented as a bad guy, a traitor, and RR's as the good guy, but really? It's baptism by fire for RR's character, and the development between them IS the best story. To tell you more would ruin it. It's a hoot and entertaining if you don't mind being 2-3 steps ahead of the action most of the time.
