Abraham Lincoln is reinvented as a vampire-killing president in this Timur Bekmambetov-directed action picture starring Benjamin Walker, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rufus Sewell, and Dominic Cooper. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies author Seth Grahame-Smith adapts his own book for 20th Century Fox. Tim Burton produces alongside Bekmambetov and Jim Lemley. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, Rovi
The book and movie are two different stories. The main plot of Abe hunting vampires and some of the characters are the same. The movie focuses on Abe killing vampires and the book focuses more on Abe's life as a whole and oh yeah he hunts vampires along the way. Plus the movie RUINED the books ending and they are not the same. The movie implies what happens but the book goes into great detail on the ending.
I really like Bekmambetov's action sequences in the movie. If you have read the book you will be disappointed. My suggestion is see the movie first and if you liked the story and plot then read the book. You'll enjoy both much more that way.
I loved this movie!!! I wasn't sure if it was going to be cheesey or campy but it really wasn't. The special effects were great, especially the train bridge crash scene - just breathtaking. It was really cool how they worked the vampire angle into the Civil War. I know it sounds preposterous but it actually works and explaining how his real-life sone died so young. All-in-all, very well done. In fact it is one of the very few movies I want to buy to watch more than once, especially around Halloween. Very cool!
I didn't read the book, but the movie was terrible. Acting was sufficient (Mary Elizabeth Winstead is always nice to look at), cinematography was good, but the action sequences were just deplorable. Abe Lincoln running on the backs of a herd of running horses to catch a vampire is over the top silly. Then the constant stop-motion like action sequences that have to stop every two seconds so you can see the blood flying in every direction is just ridiculous. Since I had not read the book, I expected to actually see Abe Lincoln hunting vampires, which was pretty cool when it happened. However, the movie likes to focus more on the overall dread of and reasons for the civil war instead (which of course involve vampires). I love vampires, love vampire movies, but I just couldn't sink my teeth into this one.

My family which includes 3 teens WE loved this movie. We were NOT expecting this to be about history, and politics, and so we were not let down. This was an action packed thrilling movie packed with plenty of "WHOA" moments. We ended the movie appreciating the irony in the movie and thinking a lot of "what if" questions. This was a great action movie!
