The smash success Caddyshack became a prototype for countless other wacky T&A-tinged teen comedies of the early 1980s. At an exclusive country club for WASPish snobs, an ambitious young caddy (Michael O'Keefe) from an overpopulated home eagerly pursues a caddy scholarship in hopes of attending college and, in turn, avoiding a job at the lumber yard. In order to succeed, he must first win the favor of the elitist Judge Smails (Ted Knight), then the caddy golf tournament which the good judge sponsors. Of course, there are love interests as well -- one good, one naughty -- not to mention several foes he must vanquish along the way. The story itself serves to string along a series of slapstick scenes involving an obnoxious nouveau riche land developer (Rodney Dangerfield) who wants to turn the site into a condominium community; an oddball, Zen-quoting, millionaire slacker/golf ace (Chevy Chase); and a psychotic groundskeeper (Bill Murray) with a gopher-fixation. Caddyshack was a bona fide hit; throughout the '80s and '90s, director Harold Ramis would continue to create such hits as Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day, and Analyze This. ~ Jeremy Beday, Rovi

I had only seen this on TV years ago when I was a kid, and it seemed okay then, but I have to say that the uncut version is quite gross and has a lot of scenes which offended even a Liberal like me!! And actually the movie is not very funny at all. Other than the characters of Dangerfield and Ted Knight, absolutely none of the others are funny at all, not even one bit. The movie could've been brilliant if they focused more heavily on these two characters and cut down on the gross and crude stuff.

As usual, a classic that is great every time you watch it.

Caddyshack has been out for 30 years it is just as funny and just as good as when it first came out. Even my 13 year old likes it. I could watch Chevy Chase everyday.

The movie is over casted and the stars ran away with the movie. Taking it from the original script to a series of impromptu comical moments this movie ranks well with classic comedies. Be sure to watch the 25th anniversary commentary. It gives you an entirely new perspective on the movie. Worth watching again and again.

Caddyshack was not as funny as we remembered... guess we have changed... While it had some funny one liners... some of the humor was quite crude. We did not finish the movie unfortunately ... :(
