Cactus Flower (1969)
Member Rating:
Goldie Hawn won an Oscar for her performance as a Greenwich Village free spirit in Cactus Flower. Middle-aged dentist Winston (Walter Matthau) is enjoying an affair with Toni (Goldie Hawn) but doesn't want to be hemmed in by marriage. He prevails upon his non-glamorous assistant Stephanie (Ingrid Bergman) to pose as his wife so as to keep from campaigning for a ring. Then, to justify his "infidelity," Winston talks his pal (Jack Weston) into pretending to be Stephanie's illicit lover. Flattered by all the attention, Stephanie begins to "doll up." Confronted by a newly gorgeous Stephanie, Winston realizes that his Dream Girl has been right there in his office all along. As for Toni, she ends up in the arms of a writer (Rick Lenz), who has loved her since Reel One. Cactus Flower was adapted by Billy Wilder's frequent collaborator I.A.L. Diamond from the play by Abe Burrows -- which in turn was adapted from a French farce. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Aged farce in pastel colors. Goldie Hawn is cuter than ever, Ingrid Bergman as classy as ever. Makes me want to be a dentist.

Fun, zany '60s style comedy. Matthau is as always really good and Goldie Hawn is gorgeous in her film debut. Much better than the recent Adam Sandler rehash titled "Just Go With It" ... and I liked that one too!

I absolutely loved this old saw. All three principles are superb. I will rent it again. It said "introducing Goldie Hawn" with a youngish Walter Mathau, and Ingrid Bergman elegant and hilarious. SEE IT!

This is a great movie. Goldie Hawn was great but Ingrid Bergman was even better. Walter Matthau as a dallying romeo did stretch it a bit but he was good, too.

That's a perfect, charming moview. 1969 and may seem a little cheesy for us, synical nowadays, but funny and enjoyable. If you want to have a good light evening, see the movie.

A simply adorable and charming movie. Goldie Hawn, in particular, is quite a charmer in her debut. Matthau is at his best, and Bergmann is a total pro here. Ever Rick Lenz gets high marks as the neighbor who is always the perfect gentleman. If you like any of these actors this is a movie not to be missed.

HOw can you say you loved a movie and give it 2 1/2 stars? Because in reality, it was just a medicre 60's movie! Yea, Goldie was "starving cute" (a la Twiggie) and Ingrid Bergman was very elegant a nd good. Walter Matthew, well, I don't know how he could be a lead actor. Anyways, it was just ok but aat varios point it became intolerant as Goldie's character was just a dumb blond. The 60's sex liberation is its main theme.
