A 1960s-era Mississippi debutante sends her community into an uproar by conducting a series of probing interviews with the black servants behind some of her community's most prominent families. Skeeter (Emma Stone) has just graduated from college, and she's eager to launch her career as a writer. In a moment of inspiration, Skeeter decides to focus her attention on the black female servants who work in her community. Her first subject is Aibileen (Viola Davis), the devoted housekeeper who has been employed by Skeeter's best friend's family for years. By speaking with Aibileen, Skeeter becomes an object of scorn to the wealthy locals, who view her actions as directly challenging to the established social order. Before long, even more servants are coming forward to tell their stories, and Skeeter discovers that friendship can blossom under the most unlikely of circumstances. Bryce Dallas Howard co-stars in a touching tale of race relations based on author Kathryn Stockett's best-selling novel of the same name. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This movie was a glimpse into everything that's bad in both movies, AND people in general. The movie takes place in a racially charged 1960's Mississippi suburb. It seems just about every white family has a black housekeeper and one of the white women in particular, has a germ phobia to where she won't let the help use her toilet. A white woman who lands a job at a local periodical enlists the angry black women to write a book documenting the outrages they've experienced. At one point she gets lectured by a black housekeeper and, on command, snaps to attention like a dog fearful of a masters switch. The acting, the musical score, the directing, and mostly the story are all subpar if a Hollywood production. This movie was a disappointment.

Fabulous movie. Needs to be seen by everyone. I grew up in this Jim Crow era and recall separate facilities and busloads of maids heading to the more affluent neighborhoods. Pay was so low that even single salary middle class households had half day help.

I loved this film. Certainly the behaviors portrayed are unfortunate and I have no illusion that they still don't go on but to see these women of fierce courage was inspiring. The film stirred up all kinds of emotions. The acting was outstanding. I watched the short bonus scenes. I maybe have purchased 10 dvds out of all the films I have seen but I think I will have to pick this up.

This was a good movie. I read the book prior to seeing the movie and was aware of a lot of things left out. I think there are some things they should have included more and to keep the movie a reasonable length shortened other scenes instead. In other words I think it could have been a GREAT movie if they had adapted it better - but still good and would definitely recommend.

The Help was one of the BEST books written in the last several years, and the movie tried very hard to do this book justice. If you've never read the book you will not be disappointed, the movie is that good!. If you've read the book just know the ending of the book is far better than the movies ending! and the pie scene is still a classic!

What a movie. Definitely made me want to pick up the book (although I didn't want to read it before). This one stirred up all kinds of emotions in me. It is touching, sincere, and heartbreaking. Sad to think that our country went through this period and that things aren't necessarily perfect as people paint it to be now. Great writing, acting, and overall film!
