Ward and June Cleaver have nothing on suburban couple Ray and Carol Peterson (Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher). Together with their perfect son, Ray and Carol are so clean that they squeak. Thus, when new neighbors Dr. Werner Klopek (Henry Gibson), Uncle Reuben (Brother Theodore), and Hans (Courtney Gains) begin evincing bizarre behavior, Ray is slightly put out. Carol thinks that Ray is getting all worked up over nothing. Ray and his fellow suburbanites endure all sorts of slapstick misadventures in the vain hope of getting "the goods" on the newcomers. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
First of all, it has Tom Hanks in it... that should be all I have to say! His younger years are as wonderful as his older years! My entire family enjoyed, even my teenagers who find movies in this era boring for the most part!
It was so good to see Carrie Fisher and Henry Gibson again! Henry is always at his finest when he is intelligently evil! Carrie was wonderful "in character". And after being use to Tom Hanks being so serious in "Cast Away" and others, I forgot about his beginnings as a quirky slapstick! And I would be really freaked out if MY neighbors dug up things in the back yard in the middle of the night and the whole place looked like death regardless of the color of their skin! (referring to the review that mentioned prejudice) I had to really cut back my rating though because of the use of God's name in a curse.
Nobody shuffles down the stairs and throws themselves onto a gurney like Tom Hanks. I laughed so hard I cried! You will not regret watching this movie, unless the comedy center in your brain is just dead.
A very funny movie loaded with laughs and miserable goofed up situations. At first, you think you are watching a horror show which just turns out to be one of the funniest films ever produced. Another win for Tom Hanks. Don't miss this one. Richard in Weston.
It just made me think that if your skin was different from your neighbors, they start finding dirt about you and ultimately bring you down. Shame on the producers and writers of this movie.
