The second feature-length adaptation of author Jim Thompson's acclaimed 1952 crime novel, Michael Winterbottom's unflinching, psychosexual post-noir stars Casey Affleck as Deputy Sheriff Lou Ford, a stoic small-town lawman leading a secret life as a serial killer. His West Texas jurisdiction plagued by a series of unsolved murders, Deputy Sheriff Ford does his best to maintain a cool facade while working to deflect the suspicions of the locals. When those suspicions grow too strong to ignore, the psychotic sheriff begins to buckle under the pressure. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I LOVED THIS MOVIE. I mean you have to see it to believe it! It's insane...and dark...cruel...and dirty. A outstanding film and a must see!

I gave this most disturbing movie 4 stars because it was done so well it gave me the creeps. Just another good example of how we never really know what a person is capable of and that even if we have known someone for years it does not mean we KNOW them.

Good movie if you don't mind excessive brutality. Affleck's character is such a sick basterd that it truly evokes feelings in me from deep inside, he makes you really want to kill him, reminds me of his part as "The Coward Robert Ford". Some tasty scenes with Jessica Alba but she's kind of a sicko too.

This movie was terribly disturbing to me - I had a sick feeling in my stomach after the first brutal killing. If you're prepared for a movie like this, I guess it's good; for me, it was twisted, sick and just plain unappealing.

Casey Affleck as Deputy Sheriff Lou Ford had some old business to take care of. An encounter with a prostitute (Jessica Alba) gave him a chance to use her for a few months before he used her to get back at the Conways, using son Elmer (Jay R. Ferguson) to get to dad Chester (Ned Beatty). Trouble is, he finds he likes what he did to those two. However, he wasn't as smart as he thought he was. The Sheriff (Tom Bower) knew, the DA (Simon Baker) knew, the union boss (Elias Koteas) knew, and another deputy (Matthew Maher) knew. Even his girlfriend (Kate Hudson) knew. How was he going to get out of this? If Chester Conway knew, he wasn't. What an ending! Casey Affleck was great.

Great movie! Casey Affleck is a very dark, creepy character and he actually makes you really scared of him. Alittle hard to understand but the movie has a good way of portraying what's going on. You see Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson in a different way because they've broadened their acting skills; they've never acted this way before. A must see for mature audiences.

Definitely a violent movie and you begin to HATE Casey Affleck after the fist woman beating. This is certainly no Gone Baby Gone and Casey is very hard to understand at times with his tiny voice and accent. Mumbles alot. So slow at times that you almost have no idea what the story is about or where its going. Watched it once, wouldn't want to see it again.

I have to agree with Marcia G. Slow at times, disturbing, but got better towards the end when the movie sped up.
