An intrepid team of explorers gets trapped in a complex underground cave system when a tropical storm makes it impossible to escape the same way they entered in this claustrophobic adventure drama from director Alister Grierson and executive producer James Cameron. Inspired by actual events, Sanctum tells the tale of Frank McGuire (Richard Roxburgh), a master diver intent on being the first to explore the Esa-ala cave system in the South Pacific. Shortly after Frank descends into the caves with a team that includes his teenage son, Josh (Rhys Wakefield), and expedition bankroller Carl Hurley (Ioan Gruffudd), a massive storm collapses the entrance to the system, forcing the adventurers to plunge deeper into the darkness in search of an alternate exit. With supplies quickly dwindling and water levels rapidly rising, Frank and his team surmise that their best hope for survival is to follow an underground river thought to empty into the ocean. But given that few explorers have ever even dared set foot in the Esa-ala system, no one quite knows for sure whether they're racing toward freedom, or another dead end. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Good adventure film. Thin script and acting was average but really enjoyable if you like these I'm stuck in a cave underwater type of films. 3D was decent, but I know I now prefer 2D regular films. Some really pretty scenery in this one.

I thought this was a really good movie. I don't think it is completely necessary to see it in 3D. It's not like Avatar where you HAVE to see it in 3D. I deffinately recomend it though. It kept my attention and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

I did not hear good things but no expect the best. I really enjoyed this movie one of the best for starting 2011. Did not get to see it in 3D but really good without. So many surprises in it. It will keep you on the edge of your seat with your mouth dropping open over and over. A must see of 2011. Will everyone make it out watch and find out

Very slow, would have been better if moved along. Didn't even watch the whole movie. Rent for a $1.00 somewhere, if you really want to see it!

Good thrilling adventure movie. The acting wasn't top notch and the script seemed a little awkward at times. But there was enough action and suspense to keep me interested.

Had to see this movie on the 3 D "BIG SCREEN"! All I can say is the story line was bad, the acting was worse, and if you can just not pay attention to any of that, and listen to the sounds, and look at the picture separate from the acting...you will like it. Definately walked away majorly disappointed...

No matter how bad a movie is, I always give it a chance. The first 30 minutes I was bored to tears. Then the action started, however with someone dying every 20 minutes, it was quite depressing. It was ok, not the worse I have seen and it had its' good parts, but overall I would say wait and rent it if you just have to see it. It was not worth the $10 I paid for sure but if I had rented it I would have felt better about 100 minutes of my time. I saw the 2-D version and some of the scenes were such bad camera shots, I think 3-d would be overkill. Watching Josh fight with his Dad brought back some of the how me and my Dad got along growing up.

They explore the caves even though a storm is approaching, because a surface team can warn them "in plenty of time." Then when someone casually notes that "the com's out," no one points out that with no warning system in place, by their previous logic, it's no longer advisable to stay in the cave system with a a storm approaching. Just about every crisis in Sanctum can be traced back to a stupid move, and the crises follow each other in rapid succession. These avoidable disasters maintain a high level of tension throughout the movie, which you may see as a good thing or an infuriating thing, depending upon whether it bothers you that you can't reach into the 3D picture, shake each character by the rubber collar and yell, nose-to-nose, "The RC video robot goes FIRST!" or "No! You do NOT leave the extra tank behind! What is WRONG with you?!?" --from my review at 1Man365Movies.com
