A team of space explorers embarks on a fantastic voyage to the edge of the universe after making a profound discovery that hints at the true origins of the human race in this belated pseudo-prequel to director Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi classic Alien. Isle of Skye, Scotland: 2089. Archeologists Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) discover a cave drawing featuring a mysterious star pattern not found in our solar system. Upon comparing the image with similar other ones found at different archeological digs all over the planet, the pair realizes that they all match perfectly. They're convinced that the image is an invitation, and set out on a high tech Weyland Industries ship called Prometheus to - just maybe - unlock the mysteries of mankind's origins on Earth. Flash forward to Christmas Day, 2093. The crew of Prometheus awakens from stasis to learn they have arrived at their destination. With highly-intelligent android David (Michael Fassbinder) assisting the mission, and chilly Weyland representative Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron) calling the shots, Captain Janet (Idris Elba) brings the ship down to the surface, landing next to a line of awe-inspiring structures that appear to have been built by intelligent beings. But when a small crew led by Elizabeth and Charlie explore the remote planet, the artifacts they find threaten to contradict everything mankind had been taught about its origins. But there's a secret in this chamber that's lain dormant for centuries, and now that it senses life, it finally sees an opportunity to escape. If it does, the trip that was supposed to answer al of our biggest questions about life could also be the one that seals the fate of every living creature on planet Earth. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A bit disappointed. Ridley Scott should have started with this movie, then the Alien trilogy. Perhaps a couple of fillers in the between would be nice too. Storyline too disconjuncted, and some parts felt like they were thrown in as an afterthought. For instance, what's the connection between these giant human-like creatures and the Aliens? How come they were found in the same place (ship)? What's the meaning of the very first scene in the movie where the human-like creature drank some water and fell dead, disintegrated? Hope that Ridley Scott would do much better if he decides on a sequel.

A huge disappointment. Terrible script with laughable dialogue. Gratuitous side stories and overall just disjointed. The story outline sounded promising but it went nowhere, addressed no large ideas of any kind. I agree with another reviewer that it was absurd to present an old man with make up that made him almost look non human when an older actor could easily have played the role. This is just a special effects action movie with no originality or ideas of note.

i never read the synopsis for this film. i only saw promos of it as a trailer on another movie. i knew from what i saw, i wanted to see this movie. someone gave me a teeny bit of a spoiler by stating, "...all i'll say is, there's one part in here that'll really blow your mind and have you like, wow!". once i began watching, i started to see things that made me think of other films i have seen numerous times. i realized there were similarities, but most definitely realized at the end that this was most definitely a nod in the direction of the "alien" franchise films. i was indeed, like wow! i thought it was a great film and if you like sci-fi, ridley scott and man vs. creature stuff, you'll love this movie.

Really interesting movie. If everyone wouldn't have given away the ending, would have been even better.

Pros: Movie has great visual effects- scenery and alien creatures. Slow at the beginning, then actually picks up, gets good with some great, creepy, gross, nerve-wracking alien monster scenes. NOT action-packed like Alien movies, but still a good storyline, albeit slower-paced movie. Good acting, too. Cons: Slow, not action-packed like other Alien movies. ASKS MORE questions than it answers. I agree with other reviewer, actor Guy Pearce in the "old man" make-up looked terrible; at first I thought he had an illness that made him look that way, but then realized it was just BAD make-up (sorry, make-up artist! but that is NOT a good job!) Better to have just used an older actor! Also, it was strange, some scenes it seemed that the actors were "alone" with no one else around....maybe that was intentional to show a sense of isolation? All in all still a good, entertaining movie.

Highly disappointing. I would rather have re-watched "Alien" - it would have been less of a waste of my time.

This was a great movie...Been following the Alien saga since its beginning. Prometheus portrays a different reality in which humanity may have been created. Its the physical story of humanity post the one infinite creator of all things. In aspect to the true Prometheus of ancient times, the movie version gives an idea of our past possibilities. What if?

Did anybody see "Star Wars"? The Story started in the middle. Prometheus starts at the beginning. Ridley Scott left room for 2 or 3 films just to get us caught up to his "Alien"! Heck, the Xenomorph has not even evolved in this space and time yet. If all you wanted to see was a Xenomorph, then I understand your dismay. However, Ridley Scott gives you the opportunity to use your mind. This is one of those great films that lets you go home and mull it over in your mind for a view days. I guess most of you were too young to see "2001 A Space Odyssey" at the theater in 1968.

The beginning was not clear to me, but it was a decent sci-fi movie. I did not realize it was a prequel until I finally saw the creature...I simply thought it was a rip off of several other movies including Star Wars.

I enjoyed the movie but thought the Alien was much better with more action. This movie was a little bit on the slow side.
