A team of space explorers embarks on a fantastic voyage to the edge of the universe after making a profound discovery that hints at the true origins of the human race in this belated pseudo-prequel to director Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi classic Alien. Isle of Skye, Scotland: 2089. Archeologists Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) discover a cave drawing featuring a mysterious star pattern not found in our solar system. Upon comparing the image with similar other ones found at different archeological digs all over the planet, the pair realizes that they all match perfectly. They're convinced that the image is an invitation, and set out on a high tech Weyland Industries ship called Prometheus to - just maybe - unlock the mysteries of mankind's origins on Earth. Flash forward to Christmas Day, 2093. The crew of Prometheus awakens from stasis to learn they have arrived at their destination. With highly-intelligent android David (Michael Fassbinder) assisting the mission, and chilly Weyland representative Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron) calling the shots, Captain Janet (Idris Elba) brings the ship down to the surface, landing next to a line of awe-inspiring structures that appear to have been built by intelligent beings. But when a small crew led by Elizabeth and Charlie explore the remote planet, the artifacts they find threaten to contradict everything mankind had been taught about its origins. But there's a secret in this chamber that's lain dormant for centuries, and now that it senses life, it finally sees an opportunity to escape. If it does, the trip that was supposed to answer al of our biggest questions about life could also be the one that seals the fate of every living creature on planet Earth. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Prometheus is an indirect prequel to Ridley Scott's sci-fi horror classic, Alien. It is beautifully shot with amazing visual effects as well as solid performances from the whole cast (Michael Fassbender is the one who shines however). Prometheus is a thought-provoking space thriller that is also exciting and truly terrifying. It's like 2001: A Space Odyssey meets Alien. A must-see in my opinion.

This film is grand in scope and much more cerebral than its predecessors. It's a well thought out 'story before the story'. Yes, the questions you expect to be answered are indeed answered...with a couple loose ends, intentionally left, I think, for the viewer to sort out. Noomi Rapace is good, as is Idris Elba and Charlize Theron. Michael Fassbender, as always, steals the show, but in a quieter way befitting of his character. If you're expecting the hi paced action of Cameron's 'Aliens' or the pure fright of the original, then you're going to be disappointed. This is a sci-fi film that makes you think, and is all the better for it.

If you are expecting something ground-breaking here,..you going to be disappointed. Plot devices are plagiarized, or non-sensical or gimicky or all the above and characters are stock and melodramatic and arch. They must think we are stupid.

loop holes and bad character development. If you only care about special affects and not a good story you may enjoy this movie, otherwise it is a total let down. And whats up with staples in the future of medical surgery, that is just showing a lack of thought.

Started off really slow but then picked up. Not really a horror flick but it made you think. Story line was all over the place but I truly believe thats what made it so unique. I wish the villain had more action scenes. Worth the watch. Of course I could only get it on R/e/d Box.

This is a pretty cool flick, because its premise isn't outside the realm of possibilities. The idea that we aren't alone, and who created us has challenged mankind's intellect for thousands of years. We want to know, but often time knowledge has a price attached to it! Ridley Scott does everything on an epic level...this movie is no exception. Cool sets and special effects; well worth seeing! As a side note it is the prequel to Alien, so be sure to stay till the end, it makes all of the other movies make so much more sense!

Brilliant vision, outstanding visuals strung together with a loosely executed plot line and a bland cast (save Fassbender's David, who stole the show). Zero believable motivations and almost comical stupidity with predictable consequences. This is Ridley Scott's universe, not Return to Sleepaway Camp.

This movie stole many of its gimicks and scenes from Alien, which made it not as good as expected. But overall it had decent suspense and action.

Being a fan of the franchise (4 Alien movies, and a pair of AVP films), I eagerly awaited Ridley Scott's return to the helm after 33 years. While the script has some plot holes & unanswered questions, it is more coherent then the ending of 2001, and I enjoyed Kubrick's effort as much as the original Alien. The last time I was truly frightened by H.R. Geiger's Alien creature was in 1986 when James Cameron had me literally on the edge of my seat with fingers knotted into pretzels. And while Prometheus did not recapture all of those thrills (after all, once you've seen the Alien in multiple configurations in 6 films over 33 years how can it continue to illicit a scare?), it did manage to offer intense feelings, suspense, and tension as well as a potential sequel to the prequel. One recommendation to loyal fans - see this in IMAX 3D. I am not a 3D lover thinking it more a gimmick then an enhancement, but this film is spectacular in 3D!

Did anybody see "Star Wars"? The Story started in the middle. Prometheus starts at the beginning. Ridley Scott left room for 2 or 3 films just to get us caught up to his "Alien"! Heck, the Xenomorph has not even evolved in this space and time yet. If all you wanted to see was a Xenomorph, then I understand your dismay. However, Ridley Scott gives you the opportunity to use your mind. This is one of those great films that lets you go home and mull it over in your mind for a view days. I guess most of you were too young to see "2001 A Space Odyssey" at the theater in 1968.

The beginning was not clear to me, but it was a decent sci-fi movie. I did not realize it was a prequel until I finally saw the creature...I simply thought it was a rip off of several other movies including Star Wars.

I enjoyed the movie but thought the Alien was much better with more action. This movie was a little bit on the slow side.
