A team of space explorers embarks on a fantastic voyage to the edge of the universe after making a profound discovery that hints at the true origins of the human race in this belated pseudo-prequel to director Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi classic Alien. Isle of Skye, Scotland: 2089. Archeologists Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) discover a cave drawing featuring a mysterious star pattern not found in our solar system. Upon comparing the image with similar other ones found at different archeological digs all over the planet, the pair realizes that they all match perfectly. They're convinced that the image is an invitation, and set out on a high tech Weyland Industries ship called Prometheus to - just maybe - unlock the mysteries of mankind's origins on Earth. Flash forward to Christmas Day, 2093. The crew of Prometheus awakens from stasis to learn they have arrived at their destination. With highly-intelligent android David (Michael Fassbinder) assisting the mission, and chilly Weyland representative Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron) calling the shots, Captain Janet (Idris Elba) brings the ship down to the surface, landing next to a line of awe-inspiring structures that appear to have been built by intelligent beings. But when a small crew led by Elizabeth and Charlie explore the remote planet, the artifacts they find threaten to contradict everything mankind had been taught about its origins. But there's a secret in this chamber that's lain dormant for centuries, and now that it senses life, it finally sees an opportunity to escape. Did anybody see "Star Wars"? The Story started in the middle. Prometheus starts at the beginning. Ridley Scott left room for 2 or 3 films just to get us caught up to his "Alien"! Heck, the Xenomorph has not even evolved in this space and time yet. If all you wanted to see was a Xenomorph, then I understand your dismay. However, Ridley Scott gives you the opportunity to use your mind. This is one of those great films that lets you go home and mull it over in your mind for a view days. I guess most of you were too young to see "2001 A Space Odyssey" at the theater in 1968.

The beginning was not clear to me, but it was a decent sci-fi movie. I did not realize it was a prequel until I finally saw the creature...I simply thought it was a rip off of several other movies including Star Wars.

Disappointing. Predictable. No real scares. It's not horrible. Worse, its boring. And I cant get over the horendous make-up job on the old man. Why didn't they just hire an older actor instead of putting a young actor in this terrible make-up.

Another bunch of disfunctional astronauts that do all the same destructive behaviours we've seen so many times before. So unrealistic on how they go about exploring that it detracts from the plot, whatever that was. Only for those unfanilar with better quality moives.

I didn't get a chance to see this in the theater, so I bought it on launch day because it was all rented out. What a disappointment!!! Like the other reviews, nothing seemed to be relevant to the Alien Trilogy story line with the exception of the last five minutes or so. Even worse, the characters are shallow & unlikable so, even in their "finest moments" you could care less what happens to them. And, some parts are just plain ridiculous. Maybe I set my expectations too high...

Disappointing. It just seemed hurried to get it over with. Neither the script nor the characters have anything other than surface depth. Maybe there was a better film on the editing room floor.

Visually wonderful to watch, but maddening to think about. Overall, it's a decent sci-fi movie, trading action for suspense, but the plot requires some mental gymnastics to defend. My theory, read on if you care, is that the engineers created mankind, with the fore knowledge that their own race, despite all of its muscled glory, would eventually find itself in decline. Much like all dominant species in the millennia of Earth's history have fallen only to see another species emerge. They planned for this, and so created an ark for their biological material, hence all of those canisters, which they could unleash on humankind, who in sharing their genetic makeup would make perfect vessels to reboot their civilization. Well, the plan didn't go off without a hitch, and the xenomorphic materials they created spawned the creatures of the "Alien Universe" we know and love, whose only purpose is ingestion for procreation and survival.
