Alain Resnais, one of the towering figures of the French New Wave, demonstrates he still has plenty to say in this drama based on a novel by Christian Gailly. Marguerite (Sabine Azéma) is a successful dentist with a busy practice and an offbeat hobby, flying small airplanes. One day, while running errands, Marguerite loses her wallet, and it's found by Georges (André Dussollier), a seemingly happy man with a wife, Suzanne (Anne Consigny), and two children (Vladimir Consigny and Sara Forestier). As Georges looks through the wallet and examines the photos of Marguerite, he finds he's fascinated with her and her life, and soon his curiosity about her becomes an obsession. Georges' attempts to integrate himself into Marguerite's life begin to alarm her, and she hires a private security team (Mathieu Amalric and Michel Vuillermoz) to keep him away, but Georges is determined that his new love for her will not be denied. Strange and somewhat slow moving plot, *weird* ending and a total waste of time. There are so many better choices out there in foreign film-land!

The most mind numbingly slow movie ever made. The characters are pasted up fragments of some Gallic fantasy. This is a cartoon laminated in plastic to make it look like art. Don't waste your time.

Watched this because Roger Ebert liked it. Ebert didn't spend much time on the ending of the film. Without giving away too much, there seemed to be two or three endings, none of which made all that much sense. I guess what made the film enjoyable, wasn't how it ended, but how it tied unlikely events together.

To appreciate this movie you will need to appreciat cubism in art. I am not smart enough to understand or appreciate either. This is movie you try to make sense of as it goes on, all the while hoping you will do so. But, when the strange ending comes you find you can't make sense of it which is apparently what the director wanted all along. I wish I hadn't seen it.

If you like Resnais, there are no surprises here. An intriguing story line unfolds with beautifully composed scenes and a wonderful musical score. Ultimately, the film descends into absurdities, eccentricity, and non sequiturs. I suspect it amounts to a satire on impulsive living.

Worst movie ever! How could this get an average of 3 1/2 stars after 63 people reviewed it?? No plot, no movement, no story at all, no theme, no ending. On top of that it's all French with subtitles of very boring and poorly written dialog.
