Bridge to Terabithia (1985)
Member Rating:
Jess is determined to be the fastest kid in his fifth-grade class, and to that end, he's been diligently practicing the entire summer. His plans are upset, however, when Leslie, his new next-door neighbor, turns out to be faster than he is. Initially upset at this turn of events, Jess soon comes to value Leslie as a friend, and the two create an imaginary secret kingdom called Terabithia, and install themselves as king and queen. Terabithia, which can only be reached by swinging on a rope across a creek bed, is a haven for the two friends, a place where they can be safe from the problems that confront them in the real world, and where they can let their imaginations run wild. Unfortunately, tragedy strikes one morning as Leslie attempts to travel to Terabithia alone, and then Jess is forced to come to terms with the results of that tragedy. ~ Craig Butler, Rovi

... just an alert, this is the 1985 version, which appears to be a made for TV kids show. The youngsters will enjoy it, but it is definitely dated vis a vis color palette, script, acting, etc. The 2006 release has been updated, and is probably the one you are looking for.

This is the P.B.S. Version and was made for t.v. in 1985. It's less than an hour long and in that time it's really hard to develop the characters much. The newer 2007 release is much better, longer, and of course newer. I wanted to see the older version to see what it was like. It's o.k. but the theatrical version is much better. Back then, this was it...now we have choices!!!

I remember thinking as I loaded the disc, "This is going to stink." Was I ever WRONG! This is a wonderful film; I laughed and cried, sometimes at the same time. Everyone in it was top notch. I have no family except for my four cats. This is a film that makes me want a family in the worst way so I can gather them and watch this film and discuss all the many lessons it teaches about life, death, judging others, and relationships. So delightful, charming and relevant. Watch it by all means and enjoy.

This was a boring movie, something that should be an afternoon special for young kids. Apparently there is a different version to this movie, made more recently, thats the one I thought THIS was. Very disappointing!

Summary: Some boy has a crush on his teacher. A new girl shows up at the school. They go to the forest and she, being a random weirdo, decides to be the queen of Tarebithia. While the boy was on a date with his teacher looking at lady's bottoms in a museum, the girl falls off a tree. She died. The End. Worst 58 minutes of my life...ever.
